..shouldn't we establish a basic lore first?? The question is, what is the best way to do that? We don't have enough characters to do a fictional or rpm yet. We could sanction the task to a chosen few or have a set theme to base all our first characters on, kind of like an overarching event.

Well, I figure we should make a consensus, if we are going for earthbound alternate universe then I figure we either take some democratic votes on a backstory template; somewhere between Deo's concept of all these mysteries are just coming to light but have existed for awhile or we do have a Khazan/Reach City type place that has existed x amount of decades prior to "current day". We're having a few mini conversations in here, but every few hours we are swapping out whose taking control of the conversation so let's all take a sec to cram in here since we're sticking to earth at least until shit goes down to a big degree. From there, seeing what archetypes or positions need to be made should work out better than throwing ideas at the character creation board and seeing what connects. Now as for bringing over older guys, I'd be curious to see what a few free agents could be molded into- not sure if I'll be trying that but who knows. One or two ideas from the failed Landon site were promising as well, so I mean if anyone has anything then I'd love to see it, just that starting there for head honcho types may not be the best route. omfg: Well, if we're going a different direction, I'd be more than happy to lend characters over and even story points as much as needed but we don't necessarily have to take a timeline I made and copy paste it. Reusing the name isn't a problem but I don't want "not sure where this goes" to be an excuse for anyone just because I already have an idea taken. Hence when I described things way back at the end of page 2, I was vague with how that particular place was made/could feasibly be built- to the point of not even namedropping anyone I made for the RP's timeline. Though that would fall in line with a mix of Deo's past exploits being a mystery...just that things are outed as early as the 1910's/20's.

Why not work with what was suggested earlier? "How about we just go with the Golden Age of comics? When Batman and Captain America, Wolverine, ect. were punching Nazis. That's when everything started, the U.S Government first created Super Heroes in an attempt to fight against the 3rd Reich, until the USSR got a whiff of the action and also wanted in, so they created their own Superheroes. Eventually some scientists began to sell whatever drug they were using to the public, in order to get rich, that's when Super Powers went mainstream..ish.
However, now that people were exposed to others having weird powers, OTHER people, who were actually born with powers, but were hiding, can now come into the open without a fear of being prosecuted. That's when the whole "mythological" beast things come in. Vampires who were hiding are now free to be open, ect ect.
If, and only IF, we allow the use of the whole interplanetary alliance/government, then Earth should NOT be involved in it first, due to barely being adjusted to Super Hero life.
After a couple of IRL months, and many, many, many, stories, Earth can become popular enough to be noted, queue the whole Space Rome thing."

I think Reach City can be one of the location on INC's Earth but not THE location. I agree with the plan stated though. Things could start between WW1 and WW2 with various countries and organizations and individuals seeking to find a military edge for their own reasons and then somewhere down the line we can a major fic and/or rp to end that chapter.

I think out of respect for FPL'ers not present, there should be a city of Landon, Michigan that is idyllic at a first glance but is secretly a hotbed of magical girls and eldritch abominations.

Ok guys, so after brain storming I think I have the lore to this pretty much down. It's going to be a short essay-ish thing just describing the history of Earth. I used an actual history website to line things up to the current timeline. (At the end there is a tl;dr, but I recommend reading. This is open to editing.) Chapter 1: The Beginning. Ever since the beginning of documented history, and even before that, there have been people that have completely surpassed the expectations of natural human beings. These people have been the great leaders, the horrible villains, the scholars, the teachers, Gods, demi-Gods, conquerors, emperors, rulers, all the names you can possibly think of. These certain people had something different. Superhuman strength, intelligence, stamina, strategic abilities, you name it, they probably had mastered it. The super-humans lead others to victories. Alexander The Great conquered the middle east. Caesar ruled over one of the most powerful empires of all time. Hernán Cortés lead the small army that took down the great Aztec Empire. George Washington held back, and expelled one of the strongest military powers of the time with a rag-tag army of farmers. Adolf Hitler brought back a devastated German country and nearly conquered Europe. All of these people, they were magnificent...they were super-human. Now, people started to notice a pattern among these great rulers. They were built different. They were different. After decades of studies, American scientists finally had discovered a way of bio-engineering the certain splices of DNA that caused these super-humans to be so super. Years of scientific studies on rats, frogs, dogs, monkeys, and eventually, human beings produced somewhat favorable results. These specimens were physically and mentally superior to members of the same species, but due to the passing of the "Human-rights expansion" law of 1910, these experiments had to be shutdown. Then came June 28th, 1914 the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand. This sparked a series of events that would cause Austria-Hungary to declare war on Serbia, the beginning of World War One. After months of intense fighting in Europe it was clear that the war would span multiple years. In January 1917, after 3 years of "accidental" sinking of American Ships by German U-boat submarines. 6th of April, 1917, the United States would declare war on Germany. While the war was breaking out in Europe, someone was breaking in to the laboratory that had the "Super-human serum" stored inside. After ingesting a showing the Congress of the ability to make super-soldiers, the Human Rights Expansion law was lifted, and experiments resumed. The United States began to use the serum on special squads of trained operatives. This, won the war, and won the interest of many United States politicians. Chapter 2: Super-Heroes After the war, the serum was not needed, so the H-R-E law was set again. What the scientists weren't planning, however, is that the spliced DNA caused by the serum would be passed from Parent to child, being naturally reinforced and strengthened. At first, they were in small numbers, and the parents were able to keep their children in order, trying to keep them unnoticed to the public eye. Years passed however, and the original soldiers succumbed to old age. Now adults, and without anyone to control them, these super-powered children began to make headlines, as a the " Super-Generation", a generation of children that were physically and mentally superior to any of the past generations. What the media and public did not know was that the cause was the Super-Human serum. They believed that the cause was the exposure to a war-like scenario, like the Spartans of ancient Greece. The first generation of super-humans died out, due to the unsuitability of the DNA in human bodies, this was likely due to the fact that the original test subjects weren't supposed to breed and just die out in the World War. That would've been the end of it though, had it not been for 1 man. The grandfather of super-human kind, Thomas Hitchens. His body reacted differently to the inherited powers, it didn't reject the new DNA, it accepted it, and reproduced the DNA. It was fate, and nothing else, that Thomas decided to work for the same branch of Science that has created the same serum that had granted him his super-human strength and intelligence. It was using his own blood, that he was able to perfect the serum, coming up with a stable version that would not deteriorate the body over time. Chapter 3: International Competition It was the beginning of the second World War, at this time the world was somewhat aware that the U.S.A had some type of secret weapon that they were keeping secret. That's why the USSR, at the time allies with the U.S.A sent secret agents under cover to the Super-human serum project, where they stole an unstable version of the serum. Over time, when it seemed that the Germans were going to win, and when Japan first bombed Pearl Harbor, Congress decided to utilize the serum. June 6th, 1944, the landing of Normandy, otherwise know as D-Day, the first squadron of super-soldiers were sent to fight against the 3rd Reich. Thousands of casualties during that one single breach of land, however, the Allies managed to claim it, thanks to the Super-Soldiers. It was at that time that the Russians also released their tainted "batch" of super-soldiers, helping to defeat the Germans at the battle for Stalingrad. This caused the serum to become public knowledge, and everyone began to try to convert their own. Chapter 4: The Present
So, after many years of scientific serum injections, and after many generations of super-children, the serum had begun to mutate differently in different people, this dependent of many factors. With, public knowledge, however, began public shaming of the Super-beings, for being different and superior. This caused some to turn evil, and to use their powers to terrorize. Nonetheless, however, the existence of the Super-powered humans turned into a reality. Cities like Reach, and Landon, with certain communities directed towards these people, to encourage them to train their powers for the use of good, and to fight against evil. This, my friends, is the current present. We are shaping the future, we are changing history. We are the the first frontier of Superhumans. We shall protect the Earth... So tell me, are you with me, or against me? Be prepared to fight for your cause.
Tl;dr: After years of experimenting on humans, a super-hero serum became public knowledge and now super people exist.

My only problem with that history is that it kind of eliminates the possibility of actual gods being around in the past and replaces them all with superhuman.
Also, I'd have it so that the interim between ww1 and ww2 basically becomes a free for all between everyone in the world to find the newest weapon whether it be a the A-bomb, superhumans, mutant monsters, the occult, technology, etc; not just a serum.
That's my two cents

Wait a minute.......We can start creating now? I didn't say that at all. Calm your tits. No, we are still establishing a setting. However, it seems that ther is a basic consensus going.

The only other question I have(for now) is whether or not we are going to have teams Teams... Sure. Remember, same gameplay and dynamics and technical word stuff as before, different names.

Tl;dr: After years of experimenting on humans, a super-hero serum became public knowledge and now super people exist. This looks pretty good to me. I don't think it eliminates the possibility of Gods, it merely suggests that some super-humans of the ancient world were actually confused for Gods. Some Corvette's are confused for Mustangs, but it doesn't mean all mustangs aren't real. This is nice start, and you put quite a bit of work. I'd be willing to adopt it as is. It covers superhumans a la mutant style, excluding magic and supernatural groups, but that's nice in a way. Not every single superhuman has to get their powers from this serum. --- On another note do we still want a name for the battle section of the forum? Gauntlet is still good, but do we need an in-universe place called 'gauntlet'? I kind of liked the type of battle where the two opponents were fighting for reasons in context other than because they had to. We could let people write their own set-ups explaining the situation, creating short stories as set-up.

There are two battle forums. One where people will battle based on their characters just like FPL, the other where people will battle based on powers. Either can have storylines, but the powers based fighting should be more of a rumbles thread. The meat of the fighting should be the FPL type battles.
Rumbles battles should be quick and concise. As soon as I get to sit down long enough, I'm going to read over all these ideas and try to put together and total package. Deo, you're good at that. Feel free to beat me to it.

Sounds good. So is the serum still known about in he present? Like are billionaires able to get their hands on some? I feel like there should be an event that wipes all evidence of this serum from the history books and have the government cover it up. Just so that it seems a little more Earthlike in the present.

I don't think it could be wiped out, after the war the US is no longer the only power that still has the technology or knowledge that it exists. Plus once so many people got injected with it, and congress has essentially acknowledged its existence, you can't really turn back the clock. I'd compare it to Nukes, its a highly guarded secret that has over time has proliferated to some major powers, but with varying degrees of success. The Hitchens guy was a bona-fide super genius and even with today's technology its near-impossible to replicate his results, particularly because he was using his own DNA as a base.

Sure, here are the basics that seem to be agreed upon thus far. If we don’t have consensus on an issue, or if I’m leaving something out, bring it up. HISTORY
-Superhumans have existed throughout history as genetic anomalies. These men often became history’s greatest generals, philosophers, warriors, or scientists. -Around the turn of the last century during the early Eugenics movement, American scientists found some favorable results through genetic manipulations among animals. They then turned their experiments towards humans and discovered the superhuman phenomenon. -The experiments were shut down due to ethical concerns, and banned by the Human-Rights Expansion Act of 1910. -1914, WWI happens. An unknown party proves to congress that the serum created by previous experiments could create superior soldiers. The HRE is lifted, and the serum is tested on young Americans going to the front. -The war is won. The HRE is reinstated. -The children of the soldiers injected with the serum show superhuman powers. Most die young due to genetic instability. However one of them, Thomas Hitchens finds that his body adapted to the powers. He becomes a scientist, makes an early discovery of DNA due to enhanced intelligence, and perfects a more stable super human. (? Considering that all of this is supposed to occur between WWI-WWII it seems a little implausible now that I’m writing it. Hitchens would be too young if he was the son of a WWI soldier. Perhaps he should have been a soldier himself?) -WWII happens. The HRE is again lifted, and the improved serum is tested on certain American soldiers. -During the war, the USSR steals a tainted batch of serum, and creates their own line of super-soldiers. The Axis powers attempt to replicate US technology as well. ( ? I think it would make more sense if the USSR stole the serum directly after the war since that’s when they really started to view us as a threat. Second ?, did we share the serum with the allies?) -The WWII soldiers return home, and the superhuman population explodes with the baby-boomers. -The city of Reach, which had existed as an island sanctuary for persecuted superhumans since WWII, feels a massive population increase due to superhuman immigrants from across the globe (This is subject to Kev’s approval since Reach is his baby) -Landon, MI is established as a suburb for returning soldiers to raise families, and quickly becomes a small city. It soon appears to have darker secrets then its shining exterior might show. SPACE STUFF-Somewhere in the universe there is a giant space Empire that is incredibly powerful and rules over other planets with a Roman style imperialism. It has not made contact with Earth. -Most of this stuff is still vague, and subject to being re-done until we get a better feel for Earth. Mechanics -Matches based on writing quality and popularity will go in the main matches area, and will require set-ups. -Rumbles will be based on who would win in a fight; power comparisons. -Teams will exist, but not have the same names as previous FPL incarnations. -Character creation will be similar to the old system with a powers list and limits of what can be taken.
