Ugh. This is getting quite messy for me.
Multiple earths will make this world very confusing and detached. I liked the idea of the world of war but earth should be a planet that does not know it exists publicly.

Well we're still spit balling, if anything a string of planets with various culture/tech/etc seems to the lead idea but maybe those are the only posts I'm reading. I suppose we could focus what ideas have gotten past that stage after a bit more spitballing.

If we do a very large version of Earth, things could work out that way. Maybe it could be best to start out slow and establish some stories then move forward and see how all of these interconnect.

I think we should have a core world with its own supernatural/superhuman aspect and history. The existence of aliens, mutants, demons etc should be known but not an everyday element of life the the vast majority of citizens (not yet anyway and the existence of the "Gauntlet" should only be known to a minority of people.
As for the matter of planets vs realities; I think it should be a collective of multiple "existences"/Domains/Realms (whatever you want to call it) that function as an interconnected yet separate system. Some Domains/Realms will know about the system (which will need a name) either because of their age, advanced technology or magicks or the position of the realm. Others will be on the verge of pulling back the veil. Others will know nothing. At the center of this "collective will be the Gauntlet Realm which will serve as a nexus for the other realms to compete in various competitions.
Travel to certain realms could be harder or easier depending on the realms position and/or laws of nature.

A planetary system with a Shiar type mother world that is the most powerful. It ranks other worlds by develoent but does not interfere with worlds not on interplanetary development. This empire is quite like Rome in that they are always looking for entertainment for the masses (and themselves), hence the Gauntlet. The rules don't apply for the Gauntlet as entertainment is everything. Anyone from anywhere can get kidnapped for the Gauntlet fights. Mind wiped and returned if they lose.
Panem y Circensus or whatever it is.
How bout that?

Question: How are we then going to do rumbles differently than official matches? Will official matches be based on writing quality of character while rumbles are based purely on power? And will official matches require a setup?

I'll get to that when we get to that. It's all been done before. Trust Treacherous.

That's an oxymoron, but do it anyway.

Yeah, I'm liking that. We have 1 BIG planet, sort of like the Head Honcho. I mean, hell, I was studying Rome a while ago and that's what they basically did. They conquered other countries (planets) and said: You pay us taxes and you're ok. You don't and we kill you. That's what the main planet can do. They annex other planets and host the Gauntlet every year or so. I think the "weight classes" should be arranged like this: (Keep in mind I suck at power levels) 1st Rank: Planet Busters: These are the guys that can potentially destroy planets in a couple of hits, for them, the Roman Planet has set aside a couple of empty galaxies for them to wage battle in. These guys are the top of the top, usually leaders or major villains. Current people set in this level would be: Post Crisis Superman. WW Hulk. Thor. Ect..
2nd Rank: City Busters: Guys who demolish cities in their struggles, they fight on regular Arena Planets. This list includes the likes of: Golden Age Superman, Extremis Armor Ironman, Green Lantern, Magneto ect...
3rd Rank: Advanced Street Level: These guys are a step above regular humans, and have the potential to rival some City Busters. tSpiderman, Metallo, Deathstroke, Wolverine. Ect..
4th Rank: Street Level: Guys who are stronger then the average human. List includes: Batman, Robin, Captain America, Deadpool, Human Torch, Luke Cage, Blue Beetle.

Hmm, it could be interesting but if everything crosses there(and very very few other places I'm assuming) then will developing individual smaller worlds become backseat to working out the Gauntlet and it's world? Not saying the smaller worlds would't or couldn't be developed, but I have the impression our focus is more than likely going to be the mother planet with the character's coming in all shapes and sizes simply because that's really the big/only place where 'Worlds collide'? I'm not necessarily opposed to that, but I do think that veers a bit from the core idea of crossing over with these worlds in exchange for a game of heroscape. The returning FPLers may feel free to say otherwise cause it might just be me, just figuring out myself what these ideas are evolving into cus I just back on today.

Yeah, I feel sort of the same way, but possibly for different reasons. Once we create one main world, (and that main world isn't Earth), it would be hard to write stories on other planets that don't at least acknowledge their alien overlords. Also, having traditional street level guys handling street level problems on multiple planets makes them seem kind of insignificant. To echo darkender's point, I guess, I'm losing some confidence in the multiple planets idea. It seems just a little too big; in comparison it would require a lot more background fleshing out then the FPL, and we have fewer people, (who post less often). There we just had one city, and it was constantly becoming more detailed; also you didn't have to use it if you didn't want to. Since we're still just spitballing, as a new idea I'd suggest taking Earth as it is now, and then adding superheroes/aliens/magic/whatever. All those kinds of things just started existing lets say ten years ago. Enough time that people are starting to adjust, but history and culture are still mostly earthlike.

I kind of agree with Deo and Kevin here; Earth should be the focal point. Where I disagree is the time in which people have become aware of superhumans and the like; I think ten years is to short a time and would limit what we could do. For example, what if someone wanted to make a steampunk/wildwest character on Earth, it would be hard to hide hide a Cimmerean like event from the history book.

I think the deal with Infinium was that it occurred but that the associated tech and events were secret. It would be the same deal; all this stuff came into the open ten years ago, but say like a vampire from the American Revolution still existed, but people weren't aware of vampires at the time.

There would be a few hoops to jump through but I can work if written well enough. My only other problem is the whole Planetary Empire thing and how "Earth" doesn't know it's a part of it.

I agree and will restate it. This interplanetary idea is cool but would be hard to implement. I think we should start off on an Earth and allow our community to shape our world through our writings. I would definitely rather have another Khazan to deal with instead of a whole galaxy with several realms to have to write around. This idea gives ipus the option to build up to that world of war too.
I like the idea of taking Earth as it is now too, but we could go back a couple years and have the introducing of our characters be the first piece of fiction for this world. It would really leap us into the theme of our world and encourage participation. It could be a type of civil war thing where the government tries to step in and blah blah blah, I'm getting ahead of myself but you get the point.
