WELCOME TO TERTIA
Welcome to Tertia one of mankind’s far-flung colonies, for those of you familiar with my Starfire line of RPs this is the same universe but set long before the events of those RPs, set some time away from first contact, humans think they are alone in the universe, travel between planets takes months or even years and usually requires chryo freezing. As a result supplies and new settlers between Earth and her colonies take a long time to arrive.
The colonists make do with their own ingenuity on Tertia several small villages have sprung up. At least two generations of colonists populate these villages with a third starting to bloom, you live in one such village called First Landing one of the first villages constructed, it’s a tough life taming the wilderness and learning a trade but it’s better than overpopulated Earth or so you’ve been told. A lot of these colonists are pretty young, it’s not uncommon to find teenagers in local government or in business for themselves, and the colony is rather lenient on age partially out of necessity to fill positions.
While there are rumors of revolution spreading among the colonies it is just a curiosity to most, there are problems enough to deal with that are closer to home, such as marauding bandits and voracious predators especially the insect like roach-beetles a cross between a cockroach and a Hercules beetle and the size of great-danes, they are indigenous life forms which live in hive like colonies underground; on occasion these bugs have caused problems for the settlers.
The only defense the settlers have against these threats is their own volunteer militia, consisting of average citizens with a limited amount of training; you are one such member of these part time soldiers. Today the militia has been called up to investigate an odd occurrence: a neighboring village Outtown has fallen silent, no radio communications have been transmitted for some time, it may be mechanical failure or it may be something threatening, it is up to you to find out.
Character sheet:
Name:
Age: (Minimum age for being in the militia is 16, done out of necessity, most of you are probably teens or early twenties)
Gender:
Appearance: (Pic or detailed description)
Bio: (Who are what do you do when you’re not with the militia? Remember you’re not crazy badass spec ops guys, you’re just average citizens who occasionally take a weapon and stand a post.)
Squad position/ weapon preferance: Here’s where it gets a bit tricky. Allow me to explain, Earth doesn’t trust colonists with a lot of state of the art weapons, the colonists have only been given a handful of modern weapons and even those are a couple of decades behind current issue weapons.
The colonists have coped with this by turning back to older Earth weapon designs to bolster their ranks, after all they aren’t fighting wars just dispatching bandits and bugs they have come up with a squad system utilizing their various weapons efficiently.
What weapon you have will be based on this squad layout and it is first come first serve, I’m aiming for two squads but I’d like to have as many PCs in one squad as possible
Squad Layout
1 Point man: Armed with an old style pump action shotgun, a shotgun loaded with slugs or buckshot can be handy in tight spaces: emptormaven.com/img/MossbergM590A1.jpg
2 Support fire: Two men armed with “modern” assault rifles the rifles go full auto and have a round counter mounted on them:

3 Riflemen: The bulk of the fighting men carry rifles based on an old Earth design called the M14, the rifles only go semi auto but have large caliber bullets and can mount a bayonet for close quarters, colonists love the guns for their power, beauty, range and accuracy: media.liveauctiongroup.net/i/10387/11027309_1.jpg?v=8CE3CDC83DF2690
Additional weapons: Officers and squad leaders carry pistols: 9mm rounds are fine for humans but bugs not so much:

Tomahawks: For close quarters combat and for camping needs many militia men carry tomahawks on them, and sometimes they have throwing competitions:

Completely optional to have a tomahawk, if you are a rifleman and want to just stick with the bayonet/knife that’s fine: i1170.photobucket.com/albums/r533/Lairdstew/DSCN3907.jpg
Additional information: Tertia is a planet of forests and plains and a few stunning beaches, mining and farming are the main exports.
Rules: 1. Anyone can die
2. No called hits
3. Have fun!
Additional notes: It's not a very big colony so most of you have probably worked, trained, played together, or at least just seen each other in passing. These are your neighbors and friends something to keep in mind while playing kind of a small town community spirit exists.
Tertia is a diverse planet mostly forests, plains, and sea. This takes place mostly in the wooded areas but it's not far from the sea, the forests of Tertia have often been dubbed the fairy woods by settlers due to the odd tree shapes and the amount of unexplored areas. img11.nnm.me/e/d/e/9/5/00538cf978653876a52669e71e9.jpg
