Well, don't mind me; I'm just here for the cake. ..Which doesn't appear to be around here. *Gasp* The cake was a lie!
Seriously, though, I thought what we had before, was fine. Don't change, what isn't broken.

But yeah, the possibility of not needing a Database was really just something to help get the convo going. Wouldn't necessarily mean that we'd get rid of it. We're really looking for as many suggestions as possible here.

It'd be great if we can find an easier way to search he database just saying Hmmm..., that's a thought. Earlier in this thread, Lawman did mention the idea of adding tags to the profiles for quicker and more organized searching. pey might know if this forum has that option.

As much as we love the records of the database, I sucks that only like two or three people are adding all these thousands of characters and then have to manually update all of their stuff. But there's nothing to be done about that because of the limitations of this freeforums site.
It seems like the good ol' elaborate matchmaking is a dead horse. Not that we should eleminate it but it's just not the hot thing about our community.
I think we should focus on fantasy drafts. I'm my few years here, the fantacy draft created more excitement than great matchups or cash prize monthly writing challanges.
And back to the database, I think members should be link any matches they use to the character profiles themselves. Be they, officials or rumbles just to show the history of character use and quicker access to actual match the character was in. It takes the workload off the character administrators.

As much as we love the records of the database, I sucks that only like two or three people are adding all these thousands of characters and then have to manually update all of their stuff. But there's nothing to be done about that because of the limitations of this freeforums site. Well, actually, this is about the main reason we started this thread. If we can get some concrete rules/guidelines in place for the Database (profile creation, what types of characters should be allowed, how the Database categories should be split, etc.), then staff and users alike will have something to go by for creating their own character profiles. Te be perfectly honest, technically anyone can make a character profile in the Database. The profiles are really just threads that anyone can create. If we are to have a Database, though, and if everyone wants to create good, legible profiles for their favorite characters, it would still be a good idea to have some rules and/or guidelines in place to help make sure the profiles aren't offensive or incoherent messes. It seems like the good ol' elaborate matchmaking is a dead horse. Not that we should eleminate it but it's just not the hot thing about our community. I really hope that everyone hasn't just given up on matchmatching. The elaborate, entertaining match scenarios are the one thing that made EF stand out from other battledome-type sites. Why just simply ask "who can beat who" like every other place when you can create a fun story behind it? Sure, sites like fanfiction.net. and Fiction Press encourage storytelling, but the stories involving character X vs. character Y aren't really big draws at those sites. Sites like Comic Vine, Naruto Forums, and KillerMovies make a lot of match-up threads, but those sites could care less about putting stories behind them. For a long time, EF was the only site that actively encouraged both match-ups and good stories for those match-ups, and it's the main reason I've stuck with EF and this forum thus far. If we can't or don't want to get this aspect going again, we all might as well just give up on this place now and go one of the other sites. Letting this great tradition die would truly be a shame. I think we should focus on fantasy drafts. I'm my few years here, the fantacy draft created more excitement than great matchups or cash prize monthly writing challanges. Yeah, the Fantasy Draft was fun and would be nice to start up again, but the main issue is that we don't have a function that can make extremely random match-ups (which was one of the most fun aspects of the Draft), and I'm not sure if a person can make match-ups that random at a fast and constant pace. And as fun as the Fantasy Draft was, I kept hearing stories that the tournaments Mr. Graves and Jaretha held back in the day created even more buzz, as did the Back Issues even further back. Of course, this was all years before my time in EF, but someone that witnessed all this unfold might confirm this.

That probably wouldn't be too difficult to solve. Just assign a number to every character, and go to one of those random generator websites, to get your fighters.

^See? You youngin's know stuff about the interwebs that some of us old fogies don't. This may help solve the Fantasy Draft problem. Now, if we could only get more Database discussion going ...

Okay, well for the most part, what we've been doing seems fine. I see where it could be dangerous to just let anything go, because I remember somebody
complaining that people were trying to put porn stars in and school shooters, Wrestlers were banned and I never understood why. And then there will be the
eventual matter of clean up as duplicate characters and inappropriate characters show up. How will we fix things like that here?

Wrestlers were banned and I never understood why. Heh, yeah, that was mostly serge's thing. The main thing was always to add characters of great pop culture significance. Personally, though, I'm thinking Hulk Hogan wouldn't be the only wrestler that could qualify in that regard. Again, it will be up to the community at large to help decide on this. And then there will be the eventual matter of clean up as duplicate characters and inappropriate characters show up. How will we fix things like that here? I'd imagine that would be up to the Character Admins. If adding really picks up, though, we may eventually have to add more reviewers.

Now what about posting links to you matches and maybe even discussions in the character profiles. It would show character usage and help people to see who's more known. Naturally everybody won't do it, but it would be a good job assignment for lazy rumble makers

^See? You youngin's know stuff about the interwebs that some of us old fogies don't. This may help solve the Fantasy Draft problem. Lol. I honestly don't think I'm all that knowledgeable, on the subject, but I guess I have picked up a few things, over the years. Awful sillily(which is how it's spelled, according to dictionary.com. Why are you telling me otherwise, Chrome? *Glares*), too. Used one, when finding my "spirit Pokemon." :/ Whichever Dex entry number you got, was whose yours was(mine ended up being Tauros, for those wondering).
