Really wish you'd delete the kibble out of the quotes you're responding to, Z. Problem is, it's hard to get pey on here, much less anyone else, which makes it even more difficult to get things done. No offense to pey, or anyone else. Though pey does need to show here more, I can't really put a lot on him. He started out making threads asking for suggestions about the direction this site should go, but aside from the "New Name" thread, not a lot of feedback was received. Truth be told, this was also an issue on EF (if to less of a degree), even when serge asked for suggestions. If we want to make this work, we need a real collaborative effort, and that includes as much feedback as possible. Meh... the man's 80 something, so thus that will never happen. Still I believe Serge above all could provide us with some form of advice... if we asked him nicely, which might be beneficial to us. Serge is not in his 80's, lol. If he were that old, he wouldn't have been doing web design in the 1990's and beyond. I'm pretty sure this is a pic of him here: www.electricferret.com/callisto/times.htmI imagine this is sometime in the '90's. If that's the case, serge looks like he's in his early 20's in the pic, and therefore would be middle-aged now. As for contacting serge, I guess we can try EF's e-mail, but we can't be certain that function from the site's open. Kibble? And, yeah, don't know where I got the 80's conclusion. Probably fused two different ideas together lol. Last I tried, albeit before the shut down in September, Serge did seem to respond.

"Kibble" has become something of a Transformers term that mainly hardcore TF fans use. My bad. It essentially means "unnecessary parts". In a post quote, I was trying to say that "kibble" would be the part of the quote you're not responding to.

Not sure what to say other than I agree with what has been said.
Build and they will come.
Props to all the guys who worked to make this thing. I miss this whole community vibe that you don't get with the huge forums.

Affiliating with other like-minded sites is also a way to help draw in traffic, also, promoting your site on topsite lists and (if those things are still in vogue anyway) webrings is also a good way to build awareness of the site and thus bring in traffic.
And on the topic of awareness, social media could be your best friend here, like say having a Facebook, Twitter, etc. feed that regularly provides updates on site events; bug fixes, the latest tournaments, random trivia and the like. Just listing some of the possibilities here.

DSkillz: I don't even know how you're able to break up a post, the way that you do. It always seems to screw up, when I try to do it. ^^' Lawman: Exactly. *High fives* That's why I thought making topics on other comic-related forums, would be a good idea. We don't have the back issue thing going on, on this forum. And correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that how a lot of you found EF? I recall some people saying they searched for [insert character name] vs. [insert character name], and that was how they stumbled onto it. Pretty sure that's how Jean aka MarineV2 came across it, as well. And we do have a Facebook group... It's hidden from public view, though. :/

Yep, I initially stumbled upon the old EF/CBUB way back in late 1999 to early 2000 when I was doing one of those X vs. Y searches on Yahoo. Site activity also helps to bump up the chances of the forum's threads showing up on the first page of a search engine's results. (which means helping to promote awareness of this site) Like whenever I do a Cole MacGrath vs. Misaka Mikoto search Google ends up showing threads from ComicVine and SpaceBattles forum threads discussing said battle.

Unless you search for "electricferret," though, you're not going to probably find this site. Most would just type "electricferret.com," into their browser, see the site's been closed, and move on. Not go to the forums, and search the old topics, to see if a new one was possibly made. You know, I just might have thought of a way around this. When and if we finally choose a formal name for this forum, maybe a footnote or something of the like could be made here somewhere that somehow mentions electricferret.com. This "footnote" could be within this forum's guidelines, or even could be mentioned in a special "About this forum" section created explaining how this forum came to be. That way, any time a former member of the old EF that types out its name for searches, this forum would still show.

Can the actual web address be changed? If you Google "electricferret.com," this site is right after the main one. BAM! So, I'm not really worried about that. I just don't see why older members would bother searching for it, if they already know the name. They'd just type it into their browser, see Fox shut things down, and possibly not even look into the possibility the members made a successor. Now, when it's gone entirely, this may not be an issue. Since, if upon entering the web address, they get taken to an error page or something, they may, at that point, search for it. I just don't see why they would, under the current circumstances.

Can the actual web address be changed? Fairly easily, if I gather a convo with pey right. I think it was mentioned it would just take a $10 fee. If you Google "electricferret.com," this site is right after the main one. BAM! So, I'm not really worried about that. I just don't see why older members would bother searching for it, if they already know the name. Since, if upon entering the web address, they get taken to an error page or something, they may, at that point, search for it. I just don't see why they would, under the current circumstances. That wouldn't be too big an obstacle, either. Keep in mind that dozens of core CBUB members have already signed up here, and that many of them may regularly or semi-regularly keep in contact with some other core members that haven't found this forum yet. When and if we finally get this place off the ground (and maybe before, if some want to help out with this process), surely many of the out-of-the loop members can be contacted.

Changing the website address will probably make Googling it, a bit more difficult.. But I guess if we're calling ourselves "MagneticFox," it should probably be something like "magneticfox.net."
I may just be putting too much thought into it, since it will have been a little over a year, that the site was still up after closing, if your calculations are correct. But there were some members that rarely, if ever, posted on the forums. And while many may be able to be contacted, in some way, it might not be all. I just thought some of these members, may have moved onto other venues, like ComicVine or whatever. And by posting topics on these sites, not only might they see it, but we'd increase sight awareness, in the process.

I have personally tried to promote the site with friends on xbox and various groups I belong to on facebook. They best way to make it more well known is to simply spread the word the old fashioned way.
regardless of the web address
