With two big upcoming films in Superman VS Batman and Captain America: Civil War, we have some of the great times coming. With these themes being used in cinema, I would like to revisit the idea that has been presented several times. I would like to focus on a current DCU Civil War. I have my ideas on who would choose what side but would like to hear from you all. Who would side more with a government style regime and who would side against a government style martial law? The idea is the same as the registration in MCU Civil War.
Who would be on what side?
Why would they choose that side?
Below are some ideas that I have tell me what you think and include characters you could see that I didnt mention.
** = have a good probability to switch sides
(I will exclude the GL's cause most of their stories take place off of Earth)
TEAM SUPES (Anti Government)
Superman - While Superman is generally for the American way, he seems to just not trust the government. He is well against allowing the government to have access to his bio-metrics or tech. They seem to always want to pressure him towards those things when they encounter. He has also experienced General Lane developing military weapons directly to confront him. I just believe he would not be for the government having all meta humans registering with powers, IDs, etc.
Wonder Woman** - I think she would side with Superman. She has always seemed to be against Totalitarian government and people trying to exhibit total control over others. She is her own person and has always seemed to be about liberation and freedom, which would be the opposite of a registration style opposition.
Shazam - He is a kid at heart and is very protective of those he cares for. With those values, I see him siding with Superman because he will feel deep down that fighting for his freedom and not government is what is write.
Teen Titans (Superboy, Red Robin, Wonder girl, Beast Boy, and Raven) - Due to their experience with government style agencies, I just see them having a high mistrust of and higher government.
Slade** - He has had his feel of negative experiences with the government. Probably wouldn't mind going out of his way to oppose them
Red Hood and the Outlaws (Arsenal and Starfire) - like the Titans and Slade, they have had their fill of problems with government entities. They would probably be against big government.
TEAM BATS (pro government)
Batman - While not a fan of big government, Batman could see and understand its need. Being human he knows their are beings in this world that are too dangerous to go unknown. With or without the government, Batman essentially compiles this sort of information on his own. He would begrudgingly agree that it could be necessary.
Cyborg - Having major network access and being hacked once before, I could see Cyborg siding with the government. Scientifically he could see the reasoning behind the need for a registration type government on meta humans.
Green Arrow - He has always been a slight outsider. He has also always felt the immense threat of all those with powers. Their has even been times when he has voiced his opinions about the JLA itself having too much unchecked power.
Martian Manhunter - Jonn has been working with a highly classified, secret organization to protect earth. I could see where he would see a registration type government could be necessary to fight the evils of men. While he has had trust issues with the government, he has seemed to see the need for it as well.
Suicide Squad (Deadshot, Harley Quinn, Parasite, Capt Boomerang, and Black Manta) ** - Seeing as how they have no choice, they would be working with the government. (Unless they can get away with not having to.)
Lex Luthor - He would be all about the government registration. It would afford him the chance to learn from all the info gathered and a chance to manipulate the government into what he needs.
