Looking toward his two compatriots Sir William said, "My name is Sir William Scott, Templar from the 9th order. What are your names?" At the same time he motioned for the barkeep to bring 3 drinks to their table.
"Hansel, mein lorden. Just a carvaun guard." He replied, as he vaught the mug that was slid his way. "To, health." He said before taking a swig.
"Well met, Sir William Scott. Well met Hansel. My name is Numerius Sergius Tremulus, I am a Decanus in Legio XV Forctis." He looked at his companions and smiled. "For you foreigners, it means I am a squad leader in the Roman Legion." "To, health." He repeated, taking a drink of his mug.

@manor
Zaynah and her patience had paid off, her ascent to the roof giving her a good view of the garden before her and the pathway that led to its courtyard entrance, where part of the party was taking place. It seemed to be mostly Pearl Nobility and Romans, from the look alone. One of whom was talking to the owner, Senator Gaius in some kind of conversation.
Down below, Gaius smiled and replied.
"Every citizen of Rome is precious as are their allies. From its lowest beggar to Caesars Steward himself. Rest assured, in the days to come, allies of Rome shall not be forgotten."

As much of a party atmosphere this place seemed to be, there was another side to it. One heightened by the nearby guards in the corner as they drank. For those seeking information on the arena, a conversation would hold the following within earshot.
"So all the prisons are empty now. Every thief and beggar, removed to the arena."
"Are the games that desperate for entertainment? Are there no more Gladiators in Sanctuarium?"
"I fear it a prelude for something more. They seize any excuse it seems now, to drag anyone to the arena for their own reasons."
"Urgh! Keep your head down, thats the way to do it! I'm not thrilled at the idea of being in there- Not with all they've said to have gained this season neither."

The crusaders and romans left, leaving the Shaolin apparently behind. Reynard sketched a bow as the roman merchant headed for the trade center as he spoke.
"Thank you Master. They've been harassing many non-romans for a while now. Its unheard of, normally all are welcome to trade here."

Hansel listened to the conversation with interest, "Vhat, do you make of that?" He asked his new companions.

"I am glad to hear that. My security adviser informed me on the way here that the Arena is quite impressive and well known for it's warriors. He also tells me that it is not uncommon to see guards rounding up......unsavory elements and even prisoners. This competition must truly be grand if so many warriors are needed." he paused and quickly scanned the room; both to enure his guards were near and to make sure no one was listening "Are you not worried that Ninja and Hassassin's might see this as an opportunity to cause havoc?"

I wasn't going to let them throw anyone into blood sport against their will." Basho said, grabbing his water skin, "Thirsty?" Weather or not the boy took the water, Basho would continue, "This is strange news, and troubling." Basho knew what he wanted to do, but wasn't sure how exactly to handle the situation. He thought back to his old mentor, then looked to Reynard, "So the question is, what do we do now? Because I really don't want to talk down bullies all day."

Minnora listened carefully to the conversation at the table next to her while watching the Vikings bound about at the bar. It would've helped if they weren't so loud, but she still made out the gist of what was said... What had the Romans acquired this season to have the guards so worked up...?She finished her meal and glanced around the rest of the room, suddenly feeling exposed. Here she was, alone, sitting between two full tables. Perhaps it was time to rent a room and head upstairs...

"Every citizen of Rome is precious as are their allies. From its lowest beggar to Caesars Steward himself. Rest assured, in the days to come, allies of Rome shall not be forgotten."
Zaynah had overheard the words of the senator, and the irony of his statement made her smile. Once she had made her way to the roof, she would pull her red hood down and merge with the small crowd of diplomats. She was aware that it was quite possible her blue eyes and waist length white hair would stand out in a crowd. But around these politicians, it was actually better than walking around in a hood, and magnitudes less suspicious. At least she didn't exactly look Muslim, but neither did she look Roman, for certain.
"I am glad to hear that. My security adviser informed me on the way here that the Arena is quite impressive and well known for it's warriors. He also tells me that it is not uncommon to see guards rounding up......unsavory elements and even prisoners. This competition must truly be grand is so many warriors are needed."
It was then that one of the diplomats would almost knowingly scan the area. Did he spot her? She would be hardpressed to believe he hadn't, all things considered. Zaynah was not your average Muslim woman; while her accent and sunned complexion were still discernible to most traveled persons, her garments were not strictly traditional. She wore no turban and did not cover her face unlike her kin. Something of a craftswoman, she was fully capable of creating her own custom clothing. While on the job, she wore black leather, red hood, her armored gauntlet (appropriated from a blacksmith and personally customized to fit), a mask over her lower face and more knives than fingers. A too-long-yet-lighweight scimitar finished the look.
What she wore now was less obnoxious. While she still holding a number of knives on her person (none visible), along with the well-worn red hood, she had stashed her supplies in a safe place during the day. Baggy black cloth of surprising quality was her garb of choice this day. She accented with a crimson sash and black bands pinning her hair in an unorthodox style. She tried not to make too much eye contact, but if it happened, she'd merely smile, acknowledging, and make her way toward an unknown goal. That goal happened to bring her within ten yards of the senator and his Shaolin companion.
For the moment, it would seem the foreign woman resigned to helping herself to some Roman wine. She listened to the reply if the Shaolin one with mild interest, without looking at them.
"Are you not worried that Ninja and Hassassin's might see this as an opportunity to cause havoc?"
Zaynah knew instantly that this man might be trouble. Was he on to her already? Perhaps she was getting sloppy... Zaynah shook the thoughts from her head, though her stomach now churned and she chewed on her lip lightly. She drank the wine in her chalice and poured herself a bit more. She just needed to be confident in herself, and everything would fall in place. There was a lot of money riding on it, after all.

Hansel listened to the conversation with interest, "Vhat, do you make of that?" He asked his new companions. Numerius look at Hansel, debating if telling him about Roman traditions would be worth it. He decided he should. "Not really surprising, telling the truth. Most Gladiators are thieves and slaves, they're lucky to not hanged let alone allowed to fight in order to possibly gain their freedom. It is quite odd that there are not many volunteers, as they usually are the ones that make up the majority of the popular Gladiators. Might be the work of our glorious Senate." He said, rolling his eyes at the mention of the Senate. Bunch of crooks really, but he just couldn't say that out loud, risk angering loyalists that would rat him out. "Whatever the case, Gladiators are meant to die, that is their goal." He said, taking another gulp of his drink.

"Now tell me kinsman, what name have ye?" Tord gave another of his loud laughs as the Viking girl fell back from the chest bump. "Ye name Tord Trondson Benkestok. Proud son of Trond the shipwright. Followed me father I did. Became the finest shipwright in the land too. How bout ye, lass? What shall Tord ye?" As much of a party atmosphere this place seemed to be, there was another side to it. I'm not thrilled at the idea of being in there- Not with all they've said to have gained this season neither." Tord continued to indulge from his barrel of ale, just barely overhearing the guard's conversation nearby. "No more Gladiators? In the Roman Capital? Well now that wouldn't be sport at all!"She finished her meal and glanced around the rest of the room, suddenly feeling exposed. Here she was, alone, sitting between two full tables. Perhaps it was time to rent a room and head upstairs... Even as Tord grew more and more drunk, he was still pretty aware of his surroundings. Being a Viking required you to sober up at a moments notice in the off chance that you and your men were attack after leaving the mead hall. It seems that many were talking about the gladiators and whether or not they were going to attend. The only silent thing in the tavern was a Roman girl, sitting alone and just finishing her meal. She joined in the festivities not long ago and drank to Tord's toast. That made her okay by him. "Aye lass! Come 'ere!" Tord pointed at her. "Man needs more than ale to fill his belly, ah! You Roman enough to tell a weary traveler what the best dish is here?"

"Whatever the case, Gladiators are meant to die, that is their goal." He said, taking another gulp of his drink. Minnora had started to rise from her chair when she heard those words from the fellow Roman at the table on her other side. Her eyes flashed at him angrily, offended. How dare he say such a thing!? Gladiatorial matches were not simply about fighting to the death. They were about proving one's worth to the rest of the world when no one dared to accept you... They were about winning the money to feed your family when you had mastered no skills of your own... They were about showing the world that your life was still worth fighting for... Many honorable men had died for those causes. And none of them barbarians, throwing their lives away for the glory of pit-fighting. She opened her mouth to inform him of just that before she was interrupted by the booming voice from up front. "Aye lass! Come 'ere!" Tord pointed at her. "Man needs more than ale to fill his belly, ah! You Roman enough to tell a weary traveler what the best dish is here?" The blonde turned her head towards the Vikings that she had been observing during her meal to find that the large man --Tord, he had called himself-- was pointing in her direction. Feeling more exposed than before, she decided to answer him so he'd go back to his consumption of the entire bar. "Dish...?" she repeated, glancing at her now-empty plate, "...Aye... There's dormice, seasoned mussels, fresh cut pork or veal, or... roast boar..." She trailed off, unsure of what else to suggest. She glanced towards the waitress, insinuating that she'd probably be more help to him.

Tord shouted so the cooks in the back could hear him then turned back to the girl whom suggested the meal. "Aye girl! Boar for you as well. You look thinner than the day ye spawned! Come and join us!"

She boasted, propping one leg on her chair as she stood majestically. She neglected to speak about her family relations. She paused in her merriment, looking over. All the prisoners, shortage of gladiators, something more...this with her getting in despite her clear signs of lineage and allegiance. Something was up with the normally stuffy Romans, who usually thought of them as wild brutish animals.
"Companion Tord, do you feel something is amiss? I--" She broke off as more attention was drawn to them with his shout and gesturing. "Aw ye! It must be the roast boar, for certain!" She joined in.

Savages, the lot of them. This is a bar not a pillage, have some manners. Numerius thought to himself. It was Vikings who robbed him and his father when he was just a young child.
"Waitress," He said, raising his hand, gesturing, "Would you please bring me and my guests here a turkey, and more drinks? You can put it under my tab, the Legion will pay for it."
Turning back towards his companions, he adjusted his scabbard, and took another sip from his mug.
