Wow... seems like I missed out on a lot.
In regards to alternate versions of certain characters like for example, off of the top of my head-- let's say we have Raphael from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. There are SEVERAL different incarnations of him, with different overall abilities, personalities, etc.. and they've met each other in the overall TMNT canons.
I would think that it would be a good idea for alternate characters but, we need to designate them... So, again, we have Raphael vs Raphael... To the layman, it would be confusing so instead we would have to do something like this:
Raphael (Mirage) vs Raphael (Nick)
Just because these alternatives are more or less supposed to be the same character in appearance and names, their backstories are different, have overall different abilities, and some even have met each other.
I say alternatives are good. You just need to designate them.. I mean again, the main version of let's say.. Batman will just be named Batman, but if you want to use the DKR version, then the reviewed alternative Batman would be listed as Batman (Earth-31).
So, I don't see a problem with alternatives.
