General question for you Foxferrets....what's our view on introducing new people to the site? I know we are a bit of a tight bunch from the old days of cbub but the site isn't as active as it used to be. Maybe new blood wouldn't hurt? Idk....it's always been something that I felt was a bit taboo to me... I thought this started as an EF 2.0 or something? Seeing as how anyone could register and join on the original EF, I don't know why this site would handle things any differently. But yeah, like Skillz says, I don't know if they'd stick around.. No reason not to try, though. Hell, I've suggested advertising on other sites multiple times. If they come and don't see any reason to join/hang around, fuck 'em.  |

I have a serious reason why this new site attracts less people. The general aesthetic design of this new site, compared to the old Electric Ferret, is somewhat generic and not all that special. I understand that effort was put into it, but the weird 'Marvel DC United' thing in the background looks a bit tacky in my opinion and doesn't really tell anyone what this site is actually about. Let's face it, there are probably hundreds of other sites with basically the exact same theme as this one that are more renowned and popular. The reason why quite a fair number of them are like that? Because the websites have something unique going for them, just like the Electric Ferret. It had a ginormous database of fictional characters (which is here also, but is less easy to navigate by comparison) and of course, a unique way of creating the official matches. Magnetic Fox to the average browser, on the other hand, appears to be a generic looking Marvel/DC fan forum with only a few active members. There's also the fact that we may take battles between fictional characters a little too seriously at times. Compared to the old Electric Ferret, there aren't that many silly or funny battles between unlikely rivals anymore. Not that there weren't the generic Deathstroke vs Deadpool or Superman vs Goku fights on the Electric Ferret, but there were also far more unique and weird battles as well. That added to the appeal of CBUB; there was always something for serious fans who wanted to have proper debates, and there was always something for less serious fans who just wanted to talk about how an unlikely meeting between their favourite idols would work out and make jokes. Nowadays, we always seem to limit ourselves to only ever making battles between comic book and fighting game characters with the very occasional fight between characters from other media (I myself am guilty of this). Whenever weirder and less serious rumbles or matches are made, they usually get almost completely ignored. By doing this, we are limiting the potential appeal of the Magnetic Fox. Basically, I'm saying that we could try to make rumbles and matches not only more frequently, but with more variety so as to do what the original CBUB was built for; to attract fans of all different franchises and media and unite fandoms. Okay, changing the background would be simple enough if this is what the community wants. Making more diverse match-ups and encouragement of doing so, though, has to be up to the community, the users here. In fact, looking at the Official Matches and Rumbles here, 90% of all the match-ups already involve non-comics characters. Maybe the possible upcoming tourney(s) can further help with encouraging this. More to come tomorrow. |

Since you guys are already on the topic of new members and recruiting on this thread, I figured I would join in...
I know I'm pretty new, but I can really see how passionate you all are about keeping this place running and expanding. I've been thinking of suggestions and the biggest one I have is an "Introduction Page" of sorts. Not any huge thread, but something that explains "Hey! This is why we're here!", "This is what we do!", "Goals!", etc.
It's essentially the page that we can link to possible recruits to get them interested.
Then it could be followed by a list/tour of the cool things that we have here, such as the Character of the Month, opportunities to post Fanfiction, rumbles, friendly tournaments/competitions, role-playing, well-informed debates, and an ever-expanding database! (Plus explanations of some of the things that were introduced in the old site, but are still relevant here, like the INC, UWT, the difference between rumbles and official matches, etc.)
As a new member, someone who has NO past experience with forums, AND wasn't a member of the old site, I'm at a HUGE disadvantage. Lol.
It took me a while to sift through the forums and learn my way around.
(I still don't know much about anything, really...)
Sure, looking around, I could probably find everything I need to know... eventually.
Anyway, my point is, I feel like a page spelling all this out right off the bat would be helpful for any new additions and even people like me that still don't know what other things this site really has to offer...
((As a sidenote, I also agree with PPP's comments about the background. This site is so much more than "Which is kewlerrr, Marvel or DC?". We get into anime, shows, movies, games, and even books. Not just comics.))

Not just comics.))She's right. New members or potential members are gonna need some sort of Information or Introduction page to welcome them and guide them through the site. To tell them what they can do here and how thi work. It would make recruiting much more simple. On that note, I wanted to ask about advertising the site. I'm not sure on how to get new members other than people I already know, and that's not many people. I'm at a loss really. I want, nay, need this site and community to stay together and flourish. I consider all you friends and without y'all I would have nowhere to put all this particular creative energy. The fact that many of the old members like Nesh, AVP, and DamagingRob don't come around anymore breaks my heart. (I'll try to stop being sad now lol) One final thing, I know this isn't the place for site suggestions but WE NEED A DAMN CHAT BAR/BOX EMBEDDED ON THE SITE! Seriously, I can never find anyone on Mibbit these days lol |

Don't worry, I'm back. I'm here to be the hero this part of the internet deserves. I haven't gone through the different sections yet, but man do I miss electricferret. I 'm on the old one right now looking at old stuff. So many good memories. I missed all of you, except you...you know who you are. One possible explanation for that, is that I used to only be a guest when checking in on my Vita. Wouldn't let me log in, for some reason.. Now I'm pretty much only logging in on my Vita(now working), since our computer became unusable probably less than a week ago. :/ But I haven't been making thousands of posts a year, either. So my activity is definitely down, in that respect. |
