Let's face it utopia is boring from a storytelling view, sure we'd all love to live in one but a utopia is a boring setting for a plot unless it's threatened by an outside force. Dystopias however are interesting they offer a wide varity of story telling potential as a result there are a lot of dystopian futures in fiction so put down your top five picks for worst future to live in.
My picks in no particular order:
1. The Terminator universe: Machines rule the world humans are rounded up and killed a lot like the holocaust. Sure the resistance fights back and are supposedly winning but there really isn't a lot of humans left in the world to fight for.
2. The Hunger games: Twelve districts ruled by an oppresive capitol which holds gladitorial games every year forcing kids to fight to the death, just to show they can. Oh and viewing these death matches is mandatory.
3. Looper: America is in financial ruin just like everyone on the news keeps saying will happen, the mafia controls everything and there is complete anarchy where violence is as common as night and day.
4. Fallout: War never changes... Even after mankind has nuked itself to oblivion there is still conflict, radioactive creatures stalk the lands alongside raiders and several power hungry factions each wanting to gain control. The amount of things in this universe that are out to kill you would take a long time to write out. Let's just say there's a lot.
5. Logan's run: If you're over the age of 21 you must enter into the new retirement plan: Execution. If you refuse they send a sandman after you his job is rather self explanitory.
