To be fair, I've never really been into kaiju movies so I might fall squarely outside the movie's target demographic, but I was disappointed. The cliches are probably more charming to fans.

Saw it with some friends, their baby (it was the first movie the baby has been to) and loved it. Everyone in the theater did too, and clapped at several scenes and even when the movie ended. It was pretty great.

If Marvel nailed Guardians of the Galaxy then there really gone make DC look stupid. I love both Marvel and DC but a Guardians movie is harder to do then say Wonder Woman or Green Lantern. That movie looks like so much fun.

Saw it with some friends, their baby (it was the first movie the baby has been to) and loved it. Everyone in the theater did too, and clapped at several scenes and even when the movie ended. It was pretty great. Hm. My theater was bored stiff. The eleven friends I went with all thought the horrendous 1998 Godzilla-in-America travesty was better. I think we can all agree that Bryan Cranston was overmarketed and wasted, btw. Don't get me wrong, his scenes were actually really good... while he was in the movie. Which was for about 20 minutes. < A spoiler lies therein, highlight to see. I know I'm not the only person who was disappointed the at least mildly interesting scientist-no-one-believes trying to uncover what really caused his wife's murder plot was completely nixed in favor of the generic, military man trying to get back to his family tripe we ended up with. I felt zero attachment to any of the characters, so all the emotional scenes fell flat for me. Besides Cranston, who is just amazing. I've literally only seen Godzilla vs Mothra, Godzilla vs King Kong and the 1998 movie, so I have to ask... do all these kaiju movies follow literally exactly the same plot, every time? Even having only watched those few, the movie felt really same-old same-old for me. Something hatches or wakes up, something else goes after it, they both rip separate paths through the countryside until they have a brief scuffle, military try to wipe out whichever one is the bigger asshole, that plan fails, military accidentally engage the one that's a smaller asshole, that fails, they come up with the brilliant and absolutely foolproof plan to let the creatures battle it out in the middle of a populated city, the smaller asshole wins and goes back to the sea/island/sky/ad nauseum. Ironically, the only one I've seen with a modicum of originality was the 1998 movie everyone hates.

I'm terrified about the Guardians movie. I love the characters in the comic sense, but not so sure how I feel about guy from Parks and Rec and whatnot.
It'll be an interesting experience.

Hm. My theater was bored stiff. The eleven friends I went with all thought the horrendous 1998 Godzilla-in-America travesty was better. Really? That's odd, my theater was laughing at the jokes and cheering when they saw Big G for the first time and cheering throughout the fights. Like I said, the entire place erupted in clapping when it was over. Yeah, there are quite a few problems with the movie, such as the one you mentioned, but overall I thought it was alright given that it's not a "soldier coming home movie" but a "soldier coming home during a giant monster attack" so the movie has to split it's time between the two big story arcs. Honestly, I would have liked if- SPOILER Ford had to pick between "getting to his family" and "going after the monster that killed his parents", which is what I sort of suspected was happening. They also could have mentioned that he's the only EOD in the immediate area trained in those old deonation timers - maybe mention that he had a special interest in all things nuclear - to make a more compelling argument as to why he was needed on that mission. As it stands, he uses the train transporting the nuke to get to San Francisco, but afterwards stays on for the mission for... well, I guess because he has to?
It would have worked entirely about Brody and Serizawa - Brody especially since he has a much more personal interest in the movie. It could have been played that he loses contact with his son as he got older and more obsessed with finding whatever caused the reactor failure. But the thing is, had the movie focused on Brody... what would the movie consist of between monster fights? Brody can't really do much of anything because he wasn't at all privy to the information Serizawa had. At least by following Ford we have the suspense of "Is this plan going to work?" as opposed to a film about Brody sitting in a Navy ship hoping they kill the giant monster. Pretty much. We saw this with Cloverfield and Pacific Rim, and as much as people complained about those movies, what is the alternative?

I'm quite unexcited about Batman/Superman, especially seeing how Batman is really heavily based on Dark Knight Returns. At least, all signs are pointing to that Batman being the big influence.

X-Men was awesome. Quicksilver really stole the show of the non main mutants. Looking forward to GoTG being good too.

There's seriously an "Ant Man?" And they want to make a movie, based on him? ...I don't even know what to say about that.

If we're talking about movies we wish they would make, where is the Deadpool movie we were promised?
Darn you Reynolds!
