They've mentioned that the only canon are now the movies, any new books starting with Tarkin and of course the CG Clone Wars and Rebels. The novelizations are canon "where they align with the movies" (which means only what we see in the movies? Or only if they don't explicitly contradict? They haven't elaborated on this).
Basically, all the old EU is now called Legends and is non-canon. But there will still be a new EU.

Will Smith, Tom Hardy, and Jared Leto together? That's going to be fucking great. One hell of a cast. If you are a DC fan and you think this is a bad move on DC's part then don't call yourself a DC fan. Wonderful casting.

I like Will Smith, but... This another one of those race changes? Or is Will going to pull a reverse Tropico Thunder-Downey Jr.?

I like Will Smith, but... This another one of those race changes? Or is Will going to pull a reverse Tropico Thunder-Downey Jr.? I think the race-change is justified. Like it or not, the SS are not as popular as other Super-hero squads. I mean, by no mean where the G.O.G popular, but Chris Pratt was. I think people will watch it because of Will Smith's popularity. Will Smith = Deadshot Jared Leto = Joker?? How will Leto live up to it?

LOL Deadshot is a character if you look at his background he could be white, black, or spanish. Will Smith is going to be badass as Deadshot.

If they wanted to, though, I can imagine they could have found a big name white(I don't know how to spell the "C" word) actor. But Arrow's the only thing I've seen him in, so I don't know if he's always been white. I bought a couple volumes of the New 52 Suicide Squad, but I'd have to dig those out, 'cause hell if I remember, what color his skin was. And then he was in Arkham Origins, but I can't remember if he ever had his mask off.. I'm just surprised, you didn't have a problem with this change, but complained about Wally West, is all. *whistles nonchalantly*

He had a big problem with the way they portrayed Wally West in the comics. Not so much the tv show who hasn't introduced Wally yet.

Right. But it was the race change of that character, that he had a problem with. Along with Iris, who is in the TV show.
I don't really care, and love Will Smith. Just can't help but wonder why it isn't Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise, or somebody, if Deadshot has always been white(which again, I don't know, without looking it up). But I digress. This wouldn't be the first time, Hollywood has done this(I noted how Harvey Dent was African-American, in the first Tim Burton Batman movie), and probably won't be the last.

It's only acceptable if the race changes are limited to relatively obscure names. Amirite? Race shouldn't be important unless it absolutely made that character who they were--and by that, I mean said character overcoming racial hurdles in a world clearly saturated by them. Batman and Spider-Man were never limited or held back or underestimated because they were white. God forbid, eh?
Smith has the acting chops, let's see where this goes. If he's a honestly horrible Deadshot, it'll be evident. Until then, a dash of healthy skepticism and a pinch of hope from me.

I'm starting to think you guys got the wrong idea about what I said in the TV section. :/ I have no problem with anyone being black/white/mexican/hindu, whatever. The thing is, Iris caught me by surprise. Her actor is really good, I was just confused. Then I was mad about how DC introduced Wally West as a TROUBLED black teenager. Why couldn't he be a regular kid? That's why Static Shock was so popular in his cartoons, he wasn't portrayed as a thug gone good, he was always a good kid. As for Deadshot, in the new 52 he's white. I know because I have the "Death in The Family" arc downloaded to my laptop. I'll get the scan now.

Well, my problem here stems from "why?" Maybe I'm just thinking too much, but if Will was cast, simply to "have a black guy." That, to me, is dumb. Especially, when there are African-American SS members, that could have been used. I would think the same thing, if they made one member of an all African-American team Caucasian(Happy now, Nova? ), to "have a white guy." Now, if Will auditioned, and they felt he was the best choice, then fine. (Do stars like him, even have to audition? Or is it just like, "Hey, I want to be in your movie." And they roll out the red carpet.) Or, if the script or director called for this change, cool. Just hope they didn't do it, for the reason that I'm questioning. Just seems silly, to me, if so.

omfg: Yeah, I remember that scene, so it must have been in one of the New 52 Suicide Squad GNs, I have. I just would have had to go dig out the books, which are in a box, in a closet, somewhere, since my memory is shit.
