Dark Beast stumbled back, holding the side of his abdomen. He looked down to see his blood gushing, in spurts, out of a long cut. The red was already staining his grey fur.
“You,” he smirked at his own pain, causing a bit of blood to come out of his mouth as well, “colossal bitch.”
“I asked you nicely,” she replied sternly. He tried to force himself upon her, leading her to draw her keyblade. He turned out to be a formidable opponent, but no match for her.
The two met and battled in the Realm of Darkness. A shadowy dimension that housed every world that lost their glow and faded into the night. It is a strange synthesis of these world’s fragments, mixed with the unnatural elements that were native here. Where they stood now was a amethyst mesa, with little dabs of a country road from some absorbed world. Both were trapped there for different reasons, and were happy to meet another being who wasn’t a heartless monster. That was until Dark Beast touched her leg.
“Isolation is to blame for my,” he paused to find a politically correct way to phrase his sentence, “…unwanted advances. I am usually quite the upstanding gentleman.”
“I doubt that,” Aqua allowed her keyblade to disappear, “now get out of here. I’ve vanquished many mindless monsters out here, even though you look and act like a monster, you seem to have some intelligence. Some ability to change. It’s not my place to end your life.”
“Ha, look at me,” he gestured to his wound, “you may have done that already.”
Aqua felt the twinge of guilt in her stomach. She never hesitated to defend herself, but she did not enjoy taking lives. “If I promise,” she began, “to heal your injuries…will you leave me alone?”
Dark Beast’s had lowered his head in such a way that his long hair covered his face, now allowing Aqua to see his sinister smile, but nodded his head in agreement. He planned on attack as soon as she was close enough.
“Cure,” she said hesitantly, holding her hand up and letting her magic healing powers wash over her enemy.
Dark Beast was about to rush her while her keyblade was gone, but then a green portal opened above them and a group of strange people fell out in between them. First a girl with a slight green tint in her skin, then a blue monster in gold armor. A bear, a couple of girls, and a teenage boy followed. Then a little after that, an old man with crazy hair and a bipedal cat holding a spider came last.
You might know these kids as the SKWD. Or at least what was left of them.
Aqua looked utterly confused at the pile of strange characters before her. Dark Beast nearly shit himself when he saw the SKWD fall out of the sky and took that as a cue to leave.
The old man hopped up first, seemingly more spry than some of his younger comrades, “WOOO!” he screamed out and burbed immediately after, “I DID IT! I KILLED THE BITCH! TAKE THAT WALLER! TAKE IT UP THE ****-ing ASS!” He then began humping the air around him. This was Rick Sanchez.
“What did we do?” the teenage boy dusted himself off with one hand and helped a girl with green hair off the ground. Morty Smith and Cool Trainer Alyssa.
“Uhh, **we** didn’t do jackshit, Ma-Morty,” Rick said, “**I** blew her up. I did. You guys weren’t in on the plan.”
The bear slowly rolled over and got up next, on all fours. He felt the red bandana around his neck was askew and reluctantly straightened it. He did not want to be on this adventure. You know this bear as Kuma.
A girl with black hair and metal sleeves hopped up and purposefully stood between Morty and Alyssa, leaning in toward Morty. “Are you ok?” she asked in her most flirtatious voice, “Is anything broken? Head, legs, content of your pockets?” Morty was confused and took a slight step away.
The green girl and the gold-plated guy stood up last. The eternal will they, won’t they story of Shego and Goldar. Shego’s eye swelled up and began glistening like an anime girl on the verge of tears, “You came after me.” She really hated showing emotion but after being separated from her old friend so many times reinforced the idea that he was trying to get away from her.
Goldar was not smooth with the ladies, he looked at his feet and mumbled, “Well, ya know, I think you still owe me pizza money or something…” Shego’s emotion faded to annoyance and she smacked the back of his head again.
Katz, on the other hand was in unfriendly waters. Out of the hundreds of portals to other worlds opened up, he was sucked into the one with all the people he was fighting. He tried to sneak away without being noticed.
He was noticed.
Kuma, rather lethargically and uninterestingly, walked into his path and grunted to draw his teammates attention to the suave kitty cat.
“Weren’t you that kitty that was fighting Waluigi?” Shego squinted at him.
“I remember him,” Blackfire’s eyes lit up with purple energy, “he was one of Waller’s minions when we were attacked at the pier.”
“Yes, quite,” Katz tried thinking of a way to talk his way around this. Before he could craft a good lie, an unfamiliar, kind voice came from behind them.
“Excuse me?” they all turned to face Aqua, “How did you get here?”
~~~
This lead to many pleasantries between the SKWD and Aqua. Both sides telling their tales of how they came to be here. The SKWD talking about the secret government program and the insane puppetmaster that brought and bound them together.
And Aqua recounted her tale. The story of training to become a keyblade master with her two best friends, and how evil forces separated them, leaving her trapped in this desolate place.
“Where we are now is called the Realm of Darkness,” she told them, holding her hand over her heart, “Every time the light of a world is snuffed out by the darkness, it is brought here, to be prayed upon by the Heartless…” She then went on to explain what they were, creatures who’ve lost their hearts, yada, yada. There was a lot of exposition to get through here. The entire time, Kuma sat on Katz. A way of holding him prisoner while they figured everything out.
“How degrading,” Katz said to himself. Only his head poked out from under the great mass of the bear.
“We-well,” Morty said excitedly once Aqua had finished her story, “if you’re stuck here, you’re really gonna wanna hear this!”
Rick stopped his newly adopted grandson from continuing, rushing his hang over to cover his mouth.
“Hmm?” Aqua wanted to hear what he was going to say.
“Excuse me one sec,” Rick forced a smile and took a large step back away from the rest of the flock, and began angry whispering at Morty, “I know you’ve only been my Morty for, like, a few seconds now, but you can’t go around telling every bitch with blue hair that you have access to transdimentional travel. Capisce?”
“I-I-dunno Rick,” Morty couldn’t make eye contact with his new grandpa, the pure stench of alcohol from Rick’s breath flooded his nostrils, “she seems really nice.”
“Listen to me and you might live longer than my last Morty,” he took the big step back and rejoined the group.
Dark Beast scurried away on all fours. The most painful part of his retreat is that he was fully aware that the word that most accurately described what he was doing was “scurrying”. He felt like he was acting like a mouse, not an apex predator. He skid to a stop and began pacing near a rocky façade. He picked up a near by boulder and threw it off into the wall. “A mere fragile woman was able to fend me off,” he said to himself, “for all my strength and intellect I could not persuade her to bed.” He let our a bloodcurdling roar, “I hate her!”
“Hate, you say?” a figure emerged, seemingly out of nowhere behind the raging monster, “Hate I can work with.”
“Who’s there?!” Dark Beast spat at the man cloaked in shadow, “reveal yourself!”
“Let’s just say,” there was a long, awkward pause as the man in the black coat tapped his hand against his mouth, “I hate…a lot of people,” he still seemed to have trouble collecting his thoughts, “and one of my favorite hatreds overlap with your, newest, least, favorite, person.” His speech was choppy, almost incoherent.
“The blue haired woman?” DB had not taken the time to learn her name.
“Yeah, I saw her hand, your ass, to you,” he stopped again, “Riveting stuff.”
“Do not mock me,” Dark Beast warned him, “I’ll eat you alive.”
“No disrespect, intended,” he waved his hand in front of him, “I under, stand, she sucks and is, tough, as hell. But she had, advantages.”
“Like what?”
“She utilized the, power of light, its unfair. You didn’t have any mojo, behind, you.”
“I won’t stand being spoken to in riddles all day,” Dark Beast was insaly annoyed, “say whatever it is you’re about to say or I really will eat your heart.”
“HAA-“ the cloaked man let out one laugh, then seemed to reel himself back in, “funny you should mention ‘hearts’…”
The group made a small campfire for the “night”. There really wasn’t a sun or predominant source of white or yellow light in this realm, the only illumination coming from the purple aurora shifting in the pitch black sky. Goldar and Morty collected the necessary wood and Aqua used her magic to start it. Rick was already deep into his flask while everyone else sat close to the heat source.
“You have no idea,” Aqua said, “how good it is to have company. I’ve been on my own for a long time.”
So, half of the people gathered thought they were stuck in the dark realm, namely Aqua, Shego, Goldar, Alyssa, and Katz. Rick, Blackfire, and Kuma knew that Morty had a poral gun with him, that could easily take them home. Rick wanted to keep that information a secret, Blackfire was concealing that fact for her own reasons, and Kuma couldn’t effectively communicate with the others that they had a way home. He tried while the other guys were getting wood for the fire.
Speaking of Kuma, he dared not to get too close to those embers, he was paranoid of his fur catching on fire. It had been a fear of his since Heihachi told him his father, the original Kuma, died from major burns cause by an ancient fire-breathing ogre. Katz was still under him, pleading for his release, “Let me go,” he only spoke loud enough for the bear to hear him, “I don’t belong here. I haven’t done anything wrong.”
“(Oh whatever),” Kuma growled at him in bear, “(you’re one of Waller’s goons, I can’t trust you).”
“Were not at one time under her employ?” Katz appealed, “I was not in control of my destiny, I am now, there’s no need to keep me.”
Kuma tried to no-sell the fact that there was finally someone on the team who could understand him. And the cat brought up a very good point.
“So these Heartless guys you keep talking about,” Shego stared at the crackling flames, “what’s a thing with no heart look like?”
“They have many different forms,” Aqua, “they’re usually black as shadows and have bright yellow eyes.”
“Sounds disgusting,” Blackfire made sure to scoot as close as he could to Morty because she knew he had the only way out of here in his possession.
Rick let out a belch, “Urrrrp-does it look like that?” He pointed with his inebriated finger at a hulking figure behind her.
A dark smoke was coming off his shoulders and his eyes shone yellow like amber.
Cool Trainer Alyssa shrieked and stood up with the rest of them (with the exception of Rick who stumbled to get up but fell back on his butt instead). “What is that thing?” she pulled out a Pokeball.
“Didn’t expect to see me again so soon, did you?” the being standing in front of them was Dark Beast, but between this time and Aqua’s last encounter with him, he was missing an important component.
“You’re heart-“ she was mortified.
“Yes! I had no idea how much that one organ in my chest weighed me down, I’m feeling much better without it, actually.”
“So you’ve always been a monster,” Aqua summoned her keyblade. The rest of them got in battle positions as well. Shego and Blackfire had their hands light up with their respective beams of energy, Goldar drew his sword, Alyssa gripped her Pokeball, Morty lifted his drunk grandpa off the ground, Kuma looked to the prisoner trapped under him.
“(You want us to let you go)?” he asked the cat, “(prove we can trust you in battle)!”
“Oh goodie,” Katz rolled his eyes.
Dark Beast chuckled at the band in front of him, “I sense much darkness in this little group. Plenty of you strong-hearted individuals would make fine additions to my new Army of Heartless. I’ll rip your beating hearts from your chest and make you join my cause. I’m guessing you all object?”
“We do,” Aqua called out, while the other prepared to strike.
Dark Beast’s familiar sinister sneer reappeared on his face, “Good.” He snapped his fingers and an assortment of Shadow, Soldier, Invisible, Neo-Shadow, Darkball, and other pureblood heartless formed around them.
