Congratulations to Kitty Pryde and Colossus, one of the most beloved couples in Marvel Comics history and now MagneticFox's Couple of the Month!

Kitty Pryde first appeared in Uncanny X-Men #129 (January 1980), by writer Chris Claremont and artist Byrne, as a highly intelligent 13-year-old girl. Claremont and Byrne made the new character a full-fledged X-Man in issue #139, where she was codenamed "Sprite". She was the main character in the issues #141-142, the "Days of Future Past" storyline, where she is possessed by her older self, whose consciousness time travels into the past to prevent the mass extermination of mutants. The six-issue miniseries Kitty Pryde and Wolverine (1984–1985), written by Claremont, was a coming-of-age storyline in which she matures from a girl to a young woman and adopts the new name "Shadowcat".

Katherine "Kitty" Anne Pryde was leading the normal life of an extremely gifted thirteen year old girl in Deerfield, Illinois when she began suffering increasingly intense headaches. The headaches were a result of Kitty's mutant power emerging.
Kitty's parents allowed her to join Prof. Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters. She became the newest member of the X-Men. Kitty spent a great deal of time training. During her first training session in the Danger Room, Kitty easily walked through a scenario that took Professor Xavier weeks to program. Ororo Munroe christened Kitty with her first code name, Sprite, and took her to dancing lessons at Stevie Hunter’s studio.

During her teen years, Kitty fostered a number of close relationships with others at the school and in the X-Men. She developed a crush on Colossus and became close friends with his little sister Illyana Rasputin. Initially uneasy around Nightcrawler and other mutants with physical deformities, Kitty finally overcame her fears and became close friends with him. Kitty also befriended Lockheed, a highly intelligent alien resembling a dragon, who followed her home after a mission in outer space. Lockheed is extremely loyal to Kitty, and the two of them share a psychic bond. Wolverine became something of a mentor to Kitty despite his usually gruff personality. Storm came to view Kitty as the daughter she never had.
Eventually, Kitty decided to part ways with the X-Men and joined the Guardians of the Galaxy so she could be alongside her current fiance, Peter Quill. Kitty would dawn the mantle of Star-Lord after Quill's departure.

Shadowcat possesses the ability to pass through solid matter and objects by passing her atoms through the spaces between the atoms of the object through which she is moving. In this way she and the object through which she was passing could temporarily merge without interacting, and each was unharmed when Shadowcat had finished passing through the object. This process was called "phasing." When Shadowcat was phasing, she was, for all intents and purposes, intangible. Hence, when attacked, she could shift into a "phasing" state (even if she was not at the time passing through an object) so as to allow oncoming projectiles or energy blasts to pass through her harmlessly. Shadowcat passed through objects at the same rate of speed at which she was moving before she "entered" it.
Kitty also possesses the ability of Air & Water Walking, Camouflage, Telepathic Resistance, and is an Expert Martial Artist.

A mainstay of the X-Men comic book series until the 1990s, Colossus then went on to appear regularly in the first series of Excalibur. While a member of the team, he had his own self-titled one-shot that depicted him and his teammate Meggan battling Arcade at his new Murderworld facility.
After returning to the X-Men alongside Excalibur teammates, Shadowcat and Nightcrawler, he stayed with the title until his death. He was later resurrected and was a regular in the third series of Astonishing X-Men, written by Joss Whedon. He was the feature of a limited series, Colossus: Bloodlines, which had him journey back to Russia. Colossus has since returned to his status as an established fixture of the X-Men series, appearing in various X-Men related titles such as X-Men: Manifest Destiny, X-Men: Secret Invasion, X-Men, and Astonishing X-Men.

Piotr was born on the Soviet collective farm, called the Ust-Ordynski Collective, near Lake Baikal in Siberia. Piotr loved his brother, the famous cosmonaut Mikhail Rasputin, and his younger sister, Illyana Rasputin and would pass the time drawing or painting, as he was also a great artist. Piotr's superhuman powers emerged in adolescence. At first, Rasputin was content simply to use these powers to aid the other people of the Collective. When Professor Xavier was organizing a new team of mutant X-Men to help him rescue the original X-Men from the sentient island of Krakoa, Rasputin agreed to leave the farm community in which he was born and raised to go to America with Prof. Xavier at his School for Gifted Youngsters. Prof. Xavier gave Rasputin the code name "Colossus" and Rasputin aided Prof. Xavier's other new recruits.

Colossus is a mutant with the ability to transform his entire body into a form of "organic steel", with properties similar to osmium but of still unknown composition. Colossus must transform his entire body into this armored state; he cannot transform only a portion of his body. When he transforms, he gains around a foot in height (official figures say about 7'5 feet tall in transformed state versus 6'6 feet in normal human form) and his weight is at least doubled. In his armored form, Colossus possesses superhuman levels of strength, as well as superhuman stamina and durability. His physical strength is currently greater than when he first joined the X-Men due to the realignment of his cells by Magneto following an injury during the Mutant Massacre. While in his armored form, Colossus requires no food, water, or even oxygen to sustain himself, and is extremely resistant to injury. He is capable of withstanding great impacts, large caliber bullets, falling from tremendous heights, electricity, and certain magical attacks. While he has great resistance to temperature extremes of hot and cold, extreme heat followed by rapid super-cooling has been shown to cause extreme damage. As he is vulnerable to the anti-metal vibranium in his metal form, his body instinctively shifts to human form when faced with a vibranium weapon.
Colossus is an excellent hand-to-hand combatant, having received training from Wolverine and Cyclops. He has had training in acrobatics and sword fighting from Nightcrawler. In his human form, he is exceptionally strong and fit, though not superhumanly so. He has completed college-level courses at Xavier's school.
As the unstoppable Avatar of Cyttorak, Colossus gained additional superhuman strength and resistance to injury, as well as other mystical powers. Among these is the power to ignore impediments to his movement, hence the "unstoppable" moniker.

Relationship
(Courtesy of Wikipedia)
Kitty expressed a romantic love interest in Colossus early into her time with the X-Men. This did not sit well with Marvel Comics' editor-in-chief at the time, Jim Shooter, who disapproved of the suggestion that a nineteen-year-old boy was sleeping with a fourteen-year-old girl. Kitty had in fact directly propositioned Colossus in Uncanny X-Men #165, when they were both infected with Brood embryos and seemingly doomed to die: Kitty, aware of the taboo of their romantic relationship, made the plea that if she were older it would not be a problem, but Colossus refused—offering only a passionate kiss—saying "However, little one, you are not older". This did not stop the relationship from continuing, as the two were spotted once again passionately kissing in an apparent formalization of their romantic involvement.

While dating Colossus Kitty met Douglas Ramsey, a bright young man who shared her love for computers, science fiction, and arcade games. The two seemed an ideal pair; both notably bright (Kitty has been said to possess 'genius-level intelligence', Doug being on par), from similar backgrounds, and close in age.
This was not lost on Colossus, who sometimes wondered if he, a 'simple Russian farm boy', could make Kitty as happy as her new friend seemed to. The White Queen stated that Kitty had feelings for Doug when she tried to persuade the young woman to transfer to Massachusetts Academy. Despite all this, Kitty and Colossus remained close, often going to Salem Center on dates. Colossus, despite having stated that he and Kitty had already talked about having a life together once she was old enough, developed feelings for an alien named Zsaji whom he met during the Secret Wars. At first he thought the feelings were due to the side-effects of her healing powers, but he eventually realized them as genuine emotion. The object of his affections, however, died in battle, a loss that affected the young Russian profoundly. Once back on earth, he confessed to Kitty that he had not been faithful and cheated on her with Zsaji. This ultimately ended their relationship.

After the fall of Avalon, Colossus came to Muir Island looking for Kitty, and upon finding her with Pete Wisdom, he attacked and seriously injured Wisdom. The two talked about their past and decided to become close friends, with Colossus carefully watching over her romantic relationship with Wisdom. After Kitty and Wisdom's romantic relationship ends, she rejoins the X-Men with Colossus and Nightcrawler, and the two remain close. Kitty was not among the team when Colossus sacrificed himself to cure the Legacy Virus, but she returned to claim his ashes and spread them in his homeland.

On a mission, Kitty discovers that Colossus is still alive. There was a brief moment of awkwardness, but everything turned out fine and they resumed their relationship. They also finally made love for the first time. During the crisis with the Hellfire Club, Kitty did exactly what Emma thought she would do. Kitty beat Emma and trapped her deep underground. Then Kitty was caught under a telepathic spell by Emma's evil version called Perfection. It gave Kitty the illusion that she and Colossus had a baby and the X-Men were taking it away to kill it because it was too dangerous. She was eventually lead to a box somewhere inside the school, she phased through it an took it out thinking it was her baby. Still not knowing anything, she actually freed an alien entity that contained Cassandra Nova's consciousness.

After the events of Breakworld where Kitty was lost in action after phasing into a planet-sized bulllet, Colossus journeyed to Europe with Nightcrawler and Wolverine. After a stop in Germany, the guys arrived in Russia where Colossus placed flowers on his parents grave. They talked about how he lost the love of his life (Kitty), but were soon captured by the Red Room while trying to leave Russia. After, Colossus repeatedly approached Cyclops to continue his search for Kitty, and grew frustrated and withdrawn at the loss of his lover. The X-Men and New X-Men tried in vain to cheer him up with trivial distractions. To cope with Kitty's loss, Colossus takes down a group of Russian criminals dealing in human trafficking, gets a tattoo of the name 'Katya' on his chest, and assists a little girl that asks him to 'save kitty', referring to her little cat who had become stuck up a tree.
Later, in an effort to gain some credibility Magneto takes of to a high point in San Francisco to which he begins meditating and using his powers so greatly to bring Kitty Pride back to Earth. He uses his ability to bring the bullet she disappeared on back and he breaks the bullet down releasing Kitty. Only for Colossus and everyone too find out Kitty cannot turn solid. For the next several days the only way Colossus and Kitty can communicate is through Emma using her telepathy, by which Emma links their minds and Kitty says she loves Peter.

During the events of Fear Itself after numerous failed attempts to stop the Norse-powered Juggernaut Cain Marko, Shadowcat goes on a mission with Magik and Colossus to Cytorrak's dimension to try to convince him to stop using Cain Marko as the avatar of the Juggernaut. Cytorrak accepts on the terms that one of them become his new avatar, which Colossus takes to prevent his sister from carrying the burden. After Colossus repels Cain's attack, Kitty dissolves her romance with Colossus, saying she needs a man who will live for her, not die for her.
