"The Adventure of the Costumed Criminals" - After a quick encounter with a time-manipulating supervillain, Batman and three criminals from Gotham are sent to London in the nineteenth century. There, Batman encounters the legendary Sherlock Holmes, and the three criminals encounter Charles Augustus Milverton.
Batman's appearance in Gotham City may have reduced the amount of organised crime, but it heralded the arrival of a new type of criminal in the city: the costumed criminal. Many have appeared over the years. Batman made himself the enemy of many, though some are more fearsome and notorious than others. For every Joker, there's a Mr. Polka-Dot, and for every Riddler, there's a King Tut.
Three costumed criminals decided to combine their strengths to defeat their hated foe. Something happened that they didn't predict...
The Crazy-Quilt, the Penny Plunderer and the Sumo all sat around a small metal table in a darkened room.
"Where's everyone else?" asked the Penny Plunderer, aka Joe Coyne.
"There isn't anyone else!" said the Crazy Quilt, aka Paul Dekker, angrily.
The Sumo sat in silence.
"I thought you said Krill and Brown would be joining us." said Joe while fiddling with a penny in his hand idly.
"We don't need those two losers, Coyne! We can do this on our own, I mean, we've got pretty cool gimmicks." said Dekker.
"Said the blind guy with no fashion sense and a dumb helmet to the guy who throws pennies at people," said Coyne in a deadpan manner, "Look, just face facts, Dekker. We're all loser villains even by loser villain standards. I mean, I don't even know who the fat guy is, it's like he just appeared from the sky or somethin'."
The Sumo still said nothing.
"Yeah, I don't really know why I invited him either." sighed Dekker. Suddenly, the technicolor garbed criminal sprung to his feet. "I've got a plan, guys. And it's a good one." he said.
"What?" asked Coyne.
"You know that stuff Bane uses to make him super hench? Venom, I think it's called? Let's steal some of that!" said Dekker.
"How are we gonna get it, though?" asked Coyne.
"I heard that he keeps a whole stash of it in a facility beneath Old Gotham's bay." said Dekker.
"We might as well steal it during the day. I mean, no one can't see you while you're wearing that technicolor abomination even at night."
"Shut it, Coyne. 9am on Friday, guys. You all better be there. Got that, Sumo?" asked Dekker.
"Yeah." replied the Sumo.
And so, the three z-tier supervillains went down to Old Gotham and broke into Bane's secret storage facility. They saw the venom stash kept in several large cylindrical containers.
"Batman can deal with one Bane, sure, but three of 'em? I doubt it." said Dekker confidently.
"This was actually a good idea, Dekker, holy crap." said a pleasantly surprised Coyne. The Sumo picked up two containers, and the three villains then left for their secret lair. That is, until Batman appeared.
"Oh, come on!" yelled Coyne as the Caped Crusader elegantly landed on the ground in front of them after breaking through a window.
"Hand the venom over, you three." said Batman in the same manner a disappointed parent would talk to their child.
"Oh, f*cl off." said Dekker, before putting his helmet on and shooting a powerful and colourful energy beam out of it. Batman dodged to the left and threw a batarang at Dekker's face, knocking the criminal flat on his ass.
"Eat pennies, Batman!" said Coyne, before literally throwing a penny at the Dark Knight as if it would do any harm at all. The coin predictably just bounced off Batman's armour harmlessly. Batman then dashed over and sucker punched the predictable penny-themed pest through the ceiling.
The Sumo gently placed the two canisters down, and was then ready to throw down. The enormous man bear hugged Batman before attempting to break the vigilante's neck. Crazy-Quilt and the Penny Plunderer both recovered quickly. Batman managed to wriggle out of the Sumo's grasp and prepared to fight.
Suddenly, the time-themed supervillain from 1 billion BC, Epoch, was blasted through the facility walls, and knocked all four Gothamites away. Enoch had been battling Superman in Metropolis, but had been punched by the Man of Steel all the way to Gotham. Epoch brushed himself down after getting up, but noticed Justice Leaguer Batman with whom he assumed to be three sidekicks. Being a sworn enemy of the Justice League, Epoch hit them all with some kind of futuristic weapon that sent Batman, Crazy-Quilt, the Sumo and the Penny Plunderer to England in the late 19th century.
Landing in Baker Street in London, Batman and the Sumo continued their destructive fight while Dekker, Coyne, and several confused Victorian civilians looked on in horror. Batman got a small taser-like weapon from his utility belt, and shocked the Sumo with it, but it barely even gave the giant pause. Having had enough, the Sumo then picked Batman up and threw him straight into a second-story apartment nearby.
A man inside the apartment was practicing the violin, and did not even turn around to acknowledge the bat-themed vigilante that crashed through his window. Batman leapt to his feet, only to see that the three villains had disappeared from the streets.
"Damn it." said Batman. The vigilante turned to look at the apartment's owner. "Where am I?"
Putting down the violin, the well-dressed man turned also. "You are in 221B Baker Street. Now get out." said Sherlock Holmes.
Batman remembered his encounter with Holmes in the 20th century. Holmes obviously would not recognise Batman at an earlier point in his time-stream when.
"Mr. Holmes, there may be a problem in London." said Batman.
"I can see. A man in a ridiculous costume has just caused damage to my property. That is a rather glaring problem if I must say," said Holmes, "Now tell me who you are before I humiliatingly and correctly deduce the identity that you are so obviously trying to conceal and hand you over to Scotland Yard."
"You don't know me now, but you will meet me again in the next century."
Holmes moved to the door, and shouted down the stairway. "Mrs. Hudson! A lunatic has escaped Bedlam!"
"Well, what do you want me to do about it?" shouted Mrs. Hudson back.
"Call someone to have him removed immediately!" replied Holmes.
"Alright, alright!"
Batman grabbed Holmes by the shoulder. "Listen to me, Holmes! I may need your assistance in capturing three escaped convicts in London. Before you say it, I'm not one of them."
"I can tell that you're not a criminal. My threat to send you to Scotland Yard did not phase you at all. However, you are nonetheless clearly insane." replied Holmes.
"I'm not insane." said Batman as he let go of Sherlock's shoulder.
"You're dressed like a bat! I really don't need to make anymore deductions to tell that you're mentally diseased. And when it comes to catching escaped convicts, I am not the person to ask for assistance. Go and consult Lestrade." explained Holmes.
"You probably know this city better than anyone. These three men, or at least one of them, can be very dangerous. For all you know, Moriarty could have joined forces with him." said Batman.
"Moriarty died years ago at the Reichenbach Falls," said Sherlock, "However, there is one other threat that has loomed over London for a long time, and his name is Charles Augustus Milverton. Undoubtedly, these dangerous escaped convicts you speak of have already fell in league with that vile man. I shall help you, then, bat-man."
Elsewhere in London, the "King of Blackmailers" sat in a room with Crazy-Quilt, the Sumo and the Penny Plunderer.
"I'm tellin' ya, we're all from the future!" said Joe Coyne.
"So, you could tell me what happens to me in the future?" asked Milverton while keeping intense eye contact with all three Gotham criminals.
"I don't remember reading anything about you, but seeing that this is the late 19th century and you are a blackmailing villain, I deduce that you want to ruin Sherlock Holmes. We can help you with that." said Dekker.
"Alright, fancy-pants." muttered Coyne under his breath.
"I don't really need your help, but I'm listening." said Milverton.
