Hey again everyone, normally I'm not the type to open a thread dedicated to talking about myself but I've been gone for a while and want to address everyone at once. I had a match arc going on and RP, both of which I dropped suddenly. I gave a brief explanation for why I vanished, but I'm going to try and get back in the swing of things but first want to take some time to give a more detailed explanation.
Let me start by saying, I absolutely love dogs. I've had them all my life, like this majestic creature, Bear. I got him back when I was six. He was a Christmas present from the neighbors across the street. We grew up together. This dog was probably the smartest dog I'll ever meet. I know everyone thinks their dog is the best, but this was a dog who could open up people's purses, take their money out, and give it to my mom. Once, we were taking care of a chihuahua, and Bear lead him to the train tracks a few blocks away from my house and got him lost, then when my mom went looking for the dog, Bear actively tried to lead her away. Plus, he could maybe read and use weapons. He was friendly to other dogs, on his own terms, and would pretty much always bully any other dog who tried coming into his yard. Don't worry, we found him. Bear lived a full life and died peacefully a few years ago at the old age of 14 on November 13th.
Puppy is a dog I got when my mom's friend found him running on the highway. We weren't supposed to keep him because our apartment only allowed one dog, so I just called him puppy. We fell in love with and the name stuck. He's a big goof and very much the archetypal dog. He's friendly to everyone, even if he barks at first. If you can deal with a dog jumping on you, he'll be your best friend forever. and sometimes, he has laser eyes. Puppy's getting a bit older, but he still has an endless supply of energy. He'd often get beat up by Bear and he's got a few scars on his face now. That was the one silver lining in losing Bear, that Puppy would have a better time. Still, they did usually get along. So when lost Bear, we all needed something to fill the void.
Bear had died in November. Two weeks before small dog showed up at the neighbors house and made a home on their porch. The dog wouldn't go inside their house or leave the spot on their porch. My mom went over and scooped the dog up. Mom quickly bonded and I decided to call her Lady. Her and Puppy hit it off quickly. Lady is pretty smart, and a bit of a trouble maker. Not sure if I believe in this sort of thing, but in some ways it seems like Bear sent her to us. She's also put on a long of weight since we first found her. The vet says she's not unhealthy, and I'd rather her be fat and happy than starving like she was when we found her.
I've always loved dogs, and dogs have always loved me. But no dog has ever loved me as much as my next one. Since we lost Bear we'd moved to a different apartment. The assistant manager saw how good we were with pets, and so on the fourth of July, when she found this lost little pug running alone in the park, she brought him to us so we could try and find the owner. We tried, but no luck, and so we kept him. As ugly as he was, he was also ridiculously cute. But most of all, this dog, was very stupid. And so, I took those two traits and named him Cupid.
Now, when it comes to other dogs, anytime they're in a new environment they need to adjust. Some don't need much, just to sniff around and learn the layout. If you introduce them to a house with 2 other dogs, they need a lot more. As soon as Cupid was handed over to me, he adjusted. First thing he did was sleep on me. For the first time, this was a dog who I didn't think of as my pet. I called him my son, and meant it in every way. We were never apart and he was insanely relaxed around me. He loved everyone, and never once barked. I took him everywhere, and one time in the mall, there was little girl sitting alone and looking sad. I wanted to say something to her, but a full grown man talking to a small child tends to send off the wrong impression. Cupid, however, walked right up to her and sniffed her face; despite the fact that he could never seem to hold his tongue in his mouth, he wasn't much for licking faces. Anyway, the girl laughed a pet him and it cheered her up. He was the dumbest, sweetest guy.
The day before my birthday, November 6th, we were going to go out to dinner. Puppy really needed to go for a walk, despite me taking all three dogs a little while before. I was getting slightly annoyed, so I leashed Puppy and took him real fast. My mom and girlfriend decided to take the other dogs also. After they leashed Cupid, he decided he didn't want to wait for me any longer and got away from them. We never trained him to stay on his leash, because he never tried to get away from us. We didn't realize that he stayed with us, because I was always with him.
I was at the park, just across the street, and I heard what I thought was laughing. I turned around and saw him. Remember, Cupid is incredible stupid. I thought he tripped. Then I noticed, he wasn't getting up. Cars were slowed, or stopped. What I thought was laughing, was crying. Apparently, a bus was pulling out when he was running off the curb. The bus was gone by the time I realized what was going on.
Without him, the world feels like a sadder place. He brought so much joy to the world, and I doubt I will ever find anything that loves me as much as he did. The fact is, Cupid was a dog who loved me so much he died. He was only 6.
Still, I needed another dog. Not to replace him, but I needed one that would choose to be with me before picking anyone else. Who was always with me, because it's what I had grown accustomed to in the two years I had Cupid. We went to the Humane Society and now I have Trish. Trish had come to the Humane Society from another shelter, who found her as a stray. She had also had a fresh litter of puppies. Her and the puppies all got adopted on the same day. She's a good girl, except she's shy around new people and sometimes snaps at them. Trish and Lady fight sometimes, and she'll even snap at Puppy - she's just lucky he's as gentle as he is.
She bonded with me quickly and is always at my side. So, looking at the silver lining, what happened to Cupid allowed me to find this dog who really needed my help.
If you read this far, thanks. I needed to share that story. Sorry for bringing the mood down. I'll always miss Cupid.
