This is the character in question:
I'm not sure how many of you are old enough to remember this, but for those that played the original X-Men arcade game, he is the boss of the game's fourth level. Wikipedia seems to think that he's Nimrod, the futuristic Sentinel. Thing is, size and coloring are the only things he and Nimrod have in common.
His movement in the game, however, is more like Master Mold, the massive Sentinel maker, as seen here:

Also, his overall design is more like a version of Master Mold, and several other sites also refer to him as Master Mold. Problem with this, though, is that Master Mold is usually about as tall as a high-rise apartment building.
So, any ideas? I've been debating this in my head for over 20 years myself.
