This episode features characters and elements from Tekken (Namco's famous fighting game franchise), The Dukes of Hazzard (The TV show from the seventies), The Hidden (A horror video game), The House of the Dead (Sega's famous arcade light gun games), Half-Life (Valve's game series that'll probably never get a third instalment) and the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Enjoy!
Episode Two: Instinct
PART ONE
Paul Phoenix, the martial artist with the 2-foot tall flat top, and Forest Law, a fighting game Bruce Lee clone who happens to be the son of another fighting game Bruce Lee clone, were both riding down a long, winding road on Paul's stylish motorcycle. It was quiet and peaceful, except for the roaring of the bike's engines. No other vehicles were in sight. Both fighters felt free. Neither of them really had anywhere to go. They were just having a nice, relaxing Sunday drive across the countryside.
Little did they know that this peaceful atmosphere would not last.
Paul had just finished fighting in the last King of Iron Fist Tournament, and was planning on entering the next one when it came around. Forest, on the other hand, had not participated in a Tekken tournament since the third one, which was years ago. Paul had been good friends with both Forest and his father Marshall, who both look pretty much identical, strangely enough.
"This is great, Paul! We should do this again next week!" yelled Forest over the roar of the motorbike he was riding on. Paul was driving while Forest was a passenger behind him.
"Don't get ahead of yourself, kid! We should enjoy this ride while it lasts!" said Paul in response.
Forest and Paul continued their bike ride for several more miles. While driving, Paul and Forest spotted an orange 1969 Dodge Charger stock car sitting at a red traffic light at a t-junction in the middle of nowhere. Paul pulled his bike right alongside the car, and stared at the driver and the passenger inside. The driver was a blonde haired man in a cream-yellow shirt, and the passenger was a dark haired and ever-so-slightly older looking man in a plain blue shirt.
Oh yes. The Duke Boys are in this episode. Bottom line: This series is awesome.
Bo and Luke Duke stared at Paul and Forest. Paul and Forest stared at Bo and Luke back. No words were spoken by any of them, yet they all knew that a bone-shatteringly, heart-stoppingly badass race was going to happen as soon as the traffic light gods blessed them with a green light.
Bo revved the engines of The General Lee loudly in an attempt to intimidate the biker and his friend. Luke was just impressed and slightly distracted by Paul's ridiculous flat top haircut.
The traffic lights went from red, to amber. The tension was unbearable! Both drivers looked extremely focused. The two quickly looked at each other. The lights went green, and-
"YEEEEEE-HAAAAAAAAAA!!!"
20 minutes later...
In what looked like an abandoned industrial district in the middle of nowhere, the Duke Boys' car, The General Lee was smashed up against a tree and smoke was billowing from its hood. Bo and Luke kicked open the doors of their car and stumbled away after their crash. The Duke Boys were probably knocked off the road somehow.
Paul's motorbike was dented and crumpled up against a brick wall. Paul and Forest were sprawled across the ground and writhing in discomfort. Presumably, during their skull-crushingly epic race, they had somehow been knocked off their bikes and sent sliding along the ground through the industrial district.
Both accidents had occurred only a few feet away from each other, and were probably caused by the combined recklessness of the two racers. Paul, Forest, Luke and Bo all stumbled towards each other and looked pretty out-of-it.
"You... You crashed my motorcycle..." said Paul.
"You broke the Gen- *cough*... The General Lee..." coughed Bo.
"Now you're... You're gonna pay!... Phoenix... Smasher!" mumbled Paul while trying his hardest to run towards Bo. However, he only ended up falling over onto the concrete. Bo ended up doing the same right next to Paul.
Forest and Luke decided to drag Bo and Paul to a nearby industrial building. Forest and Luke sat Paul and Bo down in the abandoned and dusty office in soft chairs where the two could cool off. Forest noticed a large fridge in a storage cupboard.
"Well... Do you wanna check if there's any alcohol in that thing?" asked Forest nicely while pointing towards the fridge.
Luke looked at the fridge. "Uh... Won't it be all warm and nasty? This place doesn't look like it has any electricity."
Forest scratched his head awkwardly after realising his stupidity. "Yeah, I guess you're right. What do you wanna do, then?"
"We could just wait here until these two wake up." suggested Luke.
And they did just that. Luke and Forest talked to each other about their respective vehicles and told jokes. After a short while, Paul and Bo woke up, and after some talking, made up.
"I'm... Sorry for making you crash your car." said Paul reluctantly.
"Yeah, I'm sorry for making you crash your bike." said Bo, also reluctantly.
"Shall we get going now?" asked Forest.
"Sure." said Paul. The four men navigated their way through the building to find the exit. They all ended up in a very dark and featureless hallway.
"I could have sworn it was this way, Paul." said Forest while trying to work out which way to go.
Paul was walking at a slower pace than the others, and ended up a fair distance behind the others. He suddenly stopped completely, and started twitching and looking around nervously. "Oh man, I just got the weirdest feeling!"
"What is it?" asked Luke.
"I swear I just felt someone walk past me, but when I looked around, no one was there!" explained Paul as he ran towards the rest of the group to catch up with them.
Suddenly, a black haired man appeared from the dark hallway in front of the whole group. He wore a plain white lab coat with a shirt and trousers underneath, and also wore glasses. His sudden presence startled the group collectively. He was limping and his coat had small but noticeable specks of blood on it.
"Woah! Who the hell are you?" asked a very on-edge Paul. The building was certainly getting to the blonde haired martial artist.
"You people... Have to get out of here..." said the man while spluttering blood out of his mouth. While he was still ambling towards the group, a massive gaping hole appeared in the centre of his chest, causing more blood to spray everywhere. Paul, Forest, Bo and Luke all gasped in horror. It was almost as if an invisible knife or sword had just stabbed the man all the way through the back.
"Oh god! That is so messed up! Wha- What the hell did that?" stuttered Paul while he struggled to contain his fear.
"Luke, do you think it's ghosts or something?" asked Bo.
"No, it can't be, Bo! Quick, let's try to cover up his wound!" shouted Luke in response.
"There's no point. He looks pretty dead to me." said Forest while grabbing Luke's shoulder. After looking at the man and realising that he was not breathing, Luke decided to just leave him alone.
"Let's just get out of here, guys!" said Bo. All four men started running through the corridors and offices aimlessly. They didn't know that there was an invisible, unseen creature lurking in the dark and waiting to strike.
The invisible creature was called Subject 617, also known as The Hidden, who wielded a knife that could kill any mortal man in one stab, the pig stick.
After running around aimlessly for a few more minutes, Paul found his way into a place in the building with no roof, allowing sunlight to illuminate the ground beneath him. It felt good to see light again after spending so long running in darkness. He was on the second floor, and could see the first floor over the railings. Suddenly, he heard very faint foot steps behind him. He turned around expecting to see Forest or one of his new friends, but instead he saw something truly chilling.
He couldn't really see it properly, but he could see a faint outline, or 'aura' of what looked like a man with a knife. And that knife was pointed at Paul.
Paul quickly leapt over the railings and onto the first floor. He combat rolled as his feet hit the ground to lessen the impact. He then turned around. The partially invisible fiend had followed him down there.
"Look, I don't know what you are, but I'm gonna kick your ass anyway! I am the toughest fighter in the universe, after all!" yelled Paul at his new opponent, before charging towards it fist first. His signature move, the Phoenix Smasher, actually took the Hidden off guard, and it was sent flying backwards. "Woah. I've never punched an invisible man before. It's weird."
The Hidden was smashed into the darkness underneath the second floor, giving it the advantage of stealth once again. It tried to sneak up behind Paul again and stab him in the back, but Paul was actually being pretty smart by staying in the centre of the room in the sunlight. However, it didn't matter. The Hidden also has super speed, and wasn't messing about anymore.
Five minutes later, Forest ran into the area. He looked over the railings. His friend, Paul, was lying on his front on the ground on the first floor. Forest yelled his old friend's name at the top of his voice, but there was no reply. Forest leapt over the edge of the railings and on to the first floor to check on Paul. He shook Paul's shoulder to see if he was awake.
"Paul? Paul? Please don't be dead, oh, please don't be dead..." said Forest quietly while tears streamed down his face. To Forest's surprise, Paul actually was not dead, but was fairly badly injured.
Paul rolled over to see Forest, revealing his black left eye, which was throbbing and looked very sore. Paul coughed. "... Forest?"
"Thank god! You're alive! What the hell happened to you?" asked a frantically pleased Forest.
"I had a fight with the Invisible Man, I think. He... Kinda kicked my ass." said Paul. Paul saw the partially invisible figure appear behind Forest. "FOREST, WATCH OUT!!"
Forest heeded Paul's warning, and rolled to the side to evade The Hidden's knife. But Paul wasn't so lucky. With a single thrust of the Hidden's blade through the heart, Paul was dead. Forest fought well against the Hidden, just as Paul did, but they both shared the same fate.
Bo and Luke managed to find each other in a completely different part of the building, which happened to be much nearer to the exit they were searching for.
"This is way more intense than anything we're used to, Bo. We're gonna have to stick together if we're to survive in this here place." said Luke to his cousin.
