Gender: Female

Origin:
Louisiana, 1854
The cold dirt clung to my back and I couldn't stop my legs from shaking. I could barely see his figure, through the fog of my tear stained eyes. He stood over me, a devil in the pale moonlight. He was buckling his pants and his eyes moved about the small barn, trying to avoid my fragile and broken body.
I could still smell his breath against my face, feel his sweat against my skin.
"Clean yourself up." He said, throwing a towel onto my body.
My skirt was still pulled up to my stomach, my undergarments balled up beside my feet. My body was paralyzed, frozen with fear and hatred. I reached for the towel, but my hands couldn't stop shaking.
He lashed out, "I said, clean yourself up you dirty n*gger whore!"
Personality:
I woke up still in the barn. My right eye swollen shut. I touched the grotesque skin and tears streamed. I didn't know I was crying, but I wept, I wept in self-pity.
I stood up, and I ran. I wanted to run to the end of land, and I did. I ran until I came to a river. The river was vast, the widest I've ever seen. I had seen most of Master Latrobe’s land, and no one’s ever spoke of a river so large.
I walked along the river, letting my feet get wet in the cool and sparkling water. I walked along until I saw a women sitting in the bank in her dress, the water up to her waist.
She paid me no mind as I approached. The woman was far too busy with herself. She stared into a small golden mirror, and as I got closer I could see why. She was the most beautiful woman I had ever seen. Her copper skin was smooth and unblemished, and her thick black curls were fierce as a lions main.
"Well are you going to stare, or are you going to help me brush?"
Telepathy(4):
She never took her eyes off of the small mirror, but handed back a small brush to me. I hesitated, but she pushed the brush on me. I slowly knelt down, and brushed. The woman basked in her beauty, smiling and tossing her curls as I brushed. But then her eyes finally strayed, and in the mirror, she saw my reflection. She looked at herself once more, but with less vigor.
"What be troubling you girl?"
"I have no troubles, mistress."
She placed the mirror down and set her golden eyes upon me. Those jeweled eyes pierced me like a sword. Deep into my soul she delved and unearthed my every secret and in a moment, she knew.
"My child," She said, the sadness weighing equally on each word.
She then reached for me with a pointed finger and laid it upon my lips, and suddenly-
Decay(8) +Area Effect (9):
-I came to with his wrinkled dead wrist in my tight grasp. Frightened, I let go and he fell into dust like an aged corpse. I stepped back. I couldn’t pry myself from gazing into his sunken eyes, his face, frozen in such a state of agony. I quickly moved for the door.
I pushed open the large front doors and ran. I didn’t know where I was running, but my feet led me and I couldn’t get there fast enough.
Eventually, the dirt floor beneath me softened to swampy grounds and I found myself before a small cabin. The cabin was daunting, surrounded, almost guarded by the surrounding swamp. It sat on an island in the small green lake. I had to balance across overgrown tree roots to make my way to the door.
I knocked once and the door crept open.
I stepped through, and there she was again, the beautiful woman from the river. She saw me through the large gold engraved mirror she was gazing into and smiled.
She stood up and turned to me, her golden eyes transfixed onto my soul. “You’ve done it. I can see it in you, coursing through you.”
“What have you done to me?” I looked at my hands. Suddenly, I knew what I had done. I could remember how his skin sagged and bones crumbled under my touch, by my mere presence. I was walking death. “You’ve cursed me!”
Healing (13) +Seeker (14):
“Curse! How dare you call the gift Mami Wata give you a curse? You insolent and ungrateful child, I gave you power! You have forgiven massa his trespasses now!”
“No, not like this…” Tears streamed from my eyes.
Mami Wata’s face turned and her golden eyes burned to a fiery red and her hair stood on edge as the cabin began to tremble. The mirror cracked at the very boom of her voice.
“You have insulted me and for that I will curse you. You will carry this death with you for all eternity, but, so that it does not consume your very being, and so that you are not overcome with very decay that courses through you. You must find a child deserving every year, and gift them, like I did you. This is what Mami Wata puts upon you.”
Her jaw then unhitched and hailed a blinding light, covering the whole cabin. By the time it subsided, the cabin was empty. The walls and floor were bare except a lone comb. I picked up the bone comb and placed it in my own hair. I could already feel the decay at work, killing me slowly. I knew what had to be done. I must give. I must find a child, and I must pass on this gift.
