Hey everyone,
As we attempt to settle in here, and eventually following August 24/25th relocate perhaps, I am creating this thread as an a means of suggestion as to how we can create a database.
Now, what I propose, as I have shown pey and even Methos prior, is that we create a category/thread, where we will have essentially a character profile including an image, a record, and information on skills/feats, etc, but it will all be in an actual thread rather than as a stand alone.
Perhaps we could even bring back categories too if you like, but I better continue before I get off topic.
However, here is the important part, and if you're buying this idea, be sure to listen closely to this.
If this is to happen, we will have to update the character profiles regularly after each match poll's score closes.
Meaning, after one match's vote ends, we will have to manually enter the win/loss number ourselves.
Other than that, there isn't too many drawbacks to the idea, that are really foreseeable at this time, so hence, I propose this idea to ya'll, do with it what you will.

I like the idea. The only problem I see is the amount of characters that would have to be added and maintained.

I like the idea too. It would also be neat for the matches themselves be linked in the character's profile for both archiving set-ups and for points of reference in case newcomers would like to see how the fight went down.

I just believe that the amount of characters will eventually become unmanageable manually. I go for it though.

Trust me though, if we work together as cheesy as this sounds, as the Electric Ferret family, yes Nova, dysfunctional or otherwise, we can make this happen.

Hey, everyone. It’s me, Venom 2009. I have some questions I like to ask about.
Adding characters to the database.
1. Do we add characters to the database ourselves, or do we have to submit them to a Character Admin?
2. Can we copy and paste information about the character from other sites, or do we have to type the information ourselves?
3. Can we add Teams? For example: The Avengers and Justice League. Also, what about adding universes: like the Marvel Universe and the DC Universe.
4. Can we add more then one version of a character. For example: Regular Spider-Man and Zombie Spider-Man. Also, what about adding different Power Ranger Teams and different Predators?
5. Do we still use Wikipedia as a source?
6. Can we added Fan-Fic characters? Like adding the Fan-Fic version of Pinkie Pie from Cupcakes. Also, what about adding made-up teams, like making a Team Character with Goku and Superman in it?
Now for making Matches.
1. Will there still be a “Select Match Size” like in the old site? For example: 1vs1, 1vs1vs1, 2vs1, 2vs2, 2vs2vs2, and 3vs3. Or could we make 5vs5 matches?
Well that’s all I can think of for now.

Yes, like always you'll have submit the info to Character Admins, probably through PM message. 2. That's fine, as that is exactly what I've been doing since. Eventually though, we will run into character's that have sparse or incoherent information, and in those situations, we'll have to type them up. 3. Yes, teams will still be okay. Universes possibly, need some time to think. 4. This is tough. At this point, I'll say, make sure they are different enough to where you can say they are not the same person. For example, in the case of Dick Grayson, I put Robin, Nightwing, and Batman, as the only difference besides experience, age, etc., was the costumes/name, but aside from all that, they were the same person. 5. Yes, however Wikipedia now only pertains to some technical aspects of the early part of the entry. 6. Fan fic characters is a debatable point, we'll have to do a poll or something to address that. Made-Up teams, might be somewhat unnecessary as they can be addressed within the match, or possibly the old CBUB Season Drafts, if we decide to revive those. --------- 1. As far as matches pertain, only 1 on 1's will count to records like always, however since there is no match restriction on the site, you could feasibly create about as many above that as you'd like.

Well I'd like to help out as much as I can. We'd better get this database big a burly really quick so that users can have something to work with. Can we just, like, some kind of way transfer the original database? Even if it was just one at a time?

Can we just, like, some kind of way transfer the original database? Even if it was just one at a time? It's not quite as simple as that. We kinda have to do it individually one step at a time, however, I have been adding a lot of the characters used in Rumbles already, so there's that.

Just a suggestion.
From a glance, I'm not sure how much the long profile excerpts with the inclusion of powers and abilities lists are needed, especially since the four reference links are also there. Might be better to have abridged excerpts like with the original EF, so it's less likely the lazier readers will skip over them.

Mainly due to the mere fact, that the amount of work such efforts take is really exhausting.

I'm thinking that the original CBUB had such high server fee's due to having a page for every character in the database. I'm still learning Java and Javascript, but I think I could make a single dynamic page that eliminates the need for all the separate character pages. It would be some work on my part, and I really don't know if I could do it, but I would be willing to try.
