Kasumi Goto

While on a job to steal a particularly valuable painting, Kasumi ran in to another thief, Keiji Okuda, whom had already taken the painting.

She tackled the other thief, taking the painting from his possession.

Afterwards, Kasumi and Keiji became partners, and eventually began a relationship.

She claims that they "never did return the painting."

Keiji previously worked for the Alliance Intelligence Agency.

Due to the nature of his work, he had a graybox implanted into himself.

This allowed him to relieve each memory.

During one mission, he acquired information that could cause serious harm to befall the Alliance if it was ever made public.

Following this incident, Keiji was prosecuted due to his work involving the buying and selling of classified information.

However, the prosecuting attorneys were forbidden from accessing Keiji's graybox due to Alliance laws based around the Fifth Amendment of U.S. Constitution.

Following the trial, Keiji disappeared and was eventually hunted down my Donovan Hock.

Keiji was murdered by Hock, who proceeded to steal the graybox.

Hock was unsuccessful in cracking the graybox.

After learning of Keiji's death, Kasumi swore to exact revenge upon Hock.

She eventually made a deal with Cerberus to join Shepard's team in exchange for aid in killing Hock.
