Part One of the Ranger Tournament
Ryan Mitchell reported to the new Lightspeed Rescue Base. After the reimprisonment of the demons, Ryan wandered around, looking for odd jobs as he had done before Lord Diabolico called upon him to battle the Lightspeed Power Rangers. Though, a day by day existance soon proved hollow after he had spent so much time making a difference. Eventually, he reenlisted with the Lightspeed organization and reclaimed the Titanium Morpher.
Ryan pulled his orange Lightspeed Rescue jacket over his black t-shirt as he entered the office building that served as a temporary headquarters for the military-esque organization. He had barely walked through the door when the secretary at the front desk called him over. "Captain Mitchell needs to see you," she said.
"Yeah, okay," Ryan responded. Before heading up to his father's office, Ryan stopped at the bathroom. He buttoned up the jacket and straightened the sleeves and pants of his uniform. He watered down his blonde hair, making sure it looked perfect for the captain. His dad was a nice enough man off duty, but during work hours, he was all business, and as if living up to his father's reputation wasn't hard enough, he was also the outlier of the Lightspeed Ranger team. Sure he was just as dedicated as Carter and the others, but his past actions and constant departures made him unreliable as far as the rest of Lightspeed was concerned. After a exhaling a deep breath, Ryan strode confidently out of the restroom and took the elevator up to the captain's office.
Captain Mitchell greeted Ryan with a large smile beneath his graying moustache. He was dressed his dark, blue, dress uniform with bronze trim and buttons. A matching hat hung off a coat rack just inside the barebones office. "Thanks for meeting me so quickly," said the captain.
"No problem," said his son. "I'm more curious than anything. You haven't needed to speak directly to me during operating hours since Vypra came back. There aren't anymore demons are there?"
"Thank god, no, but we are rebuilding for when they get out of the casket again. In the meantime, an old ally has asked to meet you. He set up a meeting place in Angel Grove. It's actually not that far from here, so I'm giving you the day to head over and see what he wants. Report back to me after you talk with him.
"Are you sure?" Ryan asked. "What if there's an emergency that you need the rangers for?"
"We've gotten along just fine with five, before, and whatever my friend has to say is worth listening too."
"Yes, sir." Ryan about faced and strode out of the office.

Just a couple hours later, Ryan was talking with the ally of Lightspeed in a large martial arts studio. The man, a Mr. Tommy Oliver had dark, short hair and a stern expression that could have stared down the captain. He red shirt was covered by a black coat. Despite his appearance, Mr. Oliver, or Tommy as he liked to be called, was much friendlier than he looked. He asked about how Ryan was doing at Lightspeed and what he had been doing since the demons' defeat. Ryan answered honestly.
"The rescue work is rewarding, though the paperwork that comes with it is pretty annoying."
"What kind of ranger training have you had?"
"How did you...?" Ryan started to ask, but Tommy cut him off.
"You're wearing a morpher aren't you? I'm familiar with the job myself."
"I don't get to use it much anymore, but I've been pushing myself to master the hand to hand training Captain Mitchell has me learning."
"Expected as much. It's so hard to get better when you've got the strongest morpher. How about a lesson that's a match that's a little bit more your speed." Tommy held out a metal disc with a golden symbol on it.
Tommy took Ryan to the sparring ring in the basement of the studio. Nearly the size of the whole rest of the building by itself, the underground training area was made of solid steel, or at least it seemed to be steel.
"In addition to seeing how good of a fighter you are," Tommy started, pressing a button on the wall. "I want to know how well you can pilot." Two seats with head devices and control bars unfolded from the walls. "There should be a simulation for your solarzord in database. Don't bother holding back. Come at me with all you've got."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The battle takes place in three parts. First, Ryan and Tommy fight unmorphed. Then, they fight morphed. Finally, they use a simulation of their zords to battle. Whoever wins the best two out of three matches is declared the winner.
