Chucky
Charles Lee Ray (also known as "The Lakeshore Strangler", and nicknamed "Chucky") is a fictional character and the titular antagonist of the Child's Play series. Chucky is a notorious serial killer whose spirit inhabits a Good Guy doll and continuously tries to transfer his soul from the doll to a human body, mainly the body of boy, Andy Barclay. In 1999, Chucky was nominated for the MTV Movie Award for Best Villain for the film Bride of Chucky. He was created by Don Mancini and is portrayed by Brad Dourif, in both live-action and voice-over.
Prior to the events of the original film, Charles Lee Ray lived a double life as a serial killer and a regular civilian, as seen in the flashbacks of Curse of Chucky. Here, he is depicted as a cordial yet reserved individual who dreams of having a family of his own. Through a mutual friend, he is introduced to a pregnant woman named Sarah, her husband Daniel, and their daughter, Barbie. Charles is instantly smitten with Sarah upon meeting her. Not much later, Daniel dies in a swimming accident. After that, Charles becomes more and more obsessed with Sarah and hopes to take her husband's place, forming a new family. Charles' obsession intensifies, and intending not to let Sarah go, he ties her up on a bed inside his safe house, while his accomplice, Eddie Caputo, waits in their getaway van outside. Rejected by Sarah as the police close in, Charles stabs her in the belly, causing Nica to be born a paraplegic. Right after, Charles runs from the pursuing detective (Mike Norris), intending to reach Caputo so they can escape, but Caputo drives away before Charles can reach him. Norris and Charles engage in a brief firefight that ultimately results in Charles' death. Before dying, he transfers his soul into a Good Guy doll to avoid the afterlife and seek revenge on Norris, Caputo, and Sarah thus setting the events of the Child's Play franchise in motion.
