Vin and Link stared each other down, breathing heavily. The Hylian warrior had been a little tougher than she'd anticipated, though to be fair she probably could've won this fight by now if she'd been willing to use lethal force. Link on the other hand was and Vin had had a hard time staying ahead of his attacks; she like him was sporting a number of minor wounds. He was clever, she'd give him that.
Unfortunately for him she couldn't waste any more time and he was carrying rather large metal sources on him, namely the Hylian Shield; the Master Sword was immune to her Allomancy. Vin Pulled on the shield with iron, wrenching it, and by proxy Link, toward her violently. She extinguished her iron when he crossed about half the distance, letting momentum continue his movement, then she quickly sidestepped and knocked the iconic hero out.
Now that that was done Vin knew she had to move fast. No doubt more police would be showing up soon and Shruikan had already crossed into the next district. Then suddenly she felt a sharp pain in her head. Someone was attacking her mind! She had to... She had to... Having no real defenses against this kind of attack Vin quickly blacked out.
When Link came to, he was surprised to find Mewtwo standing over Vin's unconscious form. The Pokemon didn't belong in this section. This was just bizarre as if he had been called here for a match, Mewtwo wouldn't have been able to fight Vin. "Metwtwo, what are you doing here?" He asked.
"Finishing the job you could not." Mewtwo said gesturing toward Vin. Link knew Mewtwo decently well form Super Smash Bros. His methods were less than humane to say the least.
"I won't let you kill her." Link said reading his weapons. Mewtwo laughed.
"Kill her? I wasn't sent here to kill her, no what is in store for her is far worse. You were nothing but an unwitting pawn in the scheme of powers far beyond yourself and you failed to lay your part to your usefulness is at an end. You I will kill."
"We'll see about that!" Link charged Mewtwo, Master Sword flashing forward only for it to hit a telekenetic barrier. Mewtwo laughed at him once more and fired a small Shadow ball into Lin''s gut, sending him skidding away. Link got up slowly, his tunic smoking and fired a dozen arrows in Mewtwo's direction. They all missed despite the Hylian's perfect aim. He figured that the Pokemon must have been using his psychic powers to make them miss.
Link threw a bomb next hoping that the area of effect attack would be able to catch Mewtwo in it's radius. The bomb stopped in midair, just floating there. "What?" He asked in shock.
"This isn't Smash Bros Link, here I can unleash my full power. Mewtwo tossed the bomb back and it exploded in Link's face. His senses were overwhelmed with searing agony but even so he could feel himself being lifted off of the ground and ragdolled into several buildings. Finally mercifully he felt his body hit the ground again. Despite the pain he was in he felt around trying to determine his surroundings.
He was near the terminal between districts. He was going to die here, he knew that, but there was one more thing he could do. Slowly he made his way over to the terminal and pressed the the emergency lockdown button, that would stop Mewtwo from leaving the district.
"Please state the reason for lockdown." the computer prompted.
"Unauthorized entry." Link wheezed.
"'Well played Link, but in the end it will make no difference, not after this." Mewtwo was telepathic so the recorder wouldn't hear his words and Link didn't have the breath to identify him as the entry. The Master Sword flew from Link's hands and decapitated him.
Trish sat in the Devil May Cry office trying to keep composed. After the news about Dante's fight with Kratos and Lady's battle with Starkiller that was hard, but she did it anyway. She was confident Dante wasn't dead, he'd survived worse after all. As for Lady, while that was sad, from what she understood it had been a sacrifice that needed to be made. She just wished that Dante hadn't sidelined her for this, the big idiot.
Nero, Dante's nephew ran into the room looking panicked. "Trish, I'm afraid I've got more bad news." He said. She sighed.
"I'm not sure I can take much more, what is it now?"
"That Vin woman from the fantasy section that Dante was talking about, she's been arrested for killing Link. She's claiming she's innocent.
"Of course. It's a good thing I made Dante come up with a plan on how to handle things like this after what happened with Galen." Trish picked up the old rotary phone and dialed a number, "Yes, this is Trish from Devil May Cry, I need you to defend a friend of mine in the Fantasy section. Yes, that one, you lawyers can get between districts right? Dante will pay for it, no he's not dead and I'm pretty sure Vin has been set up. You'll do it? Thank you."
"Who did you just hire?" Nero asked as she hung up the phone.
"The best." Trish said with a smirk.
"I'm sorry Vin, we haven't been able to been able to get you released. They are going to go through with your trial with the death of Link tomorrow." Elend said from the other side of the glass window on her holding cell in the fantasy detention center.
"I figured that much Elend. I didn't kill him, but I can't prove it. I'm going to need a lawyer. Any word on Shruikan?"
"Unfortunately there aren't many lawyers in the fantasy section and we can't leave the section to get one, especially on such short notice. I'm sorry but we're stuck. As for Shruikan, he seems to have made into the toon section."
"Of course, I have a feeling this set up has something to do with my returning memories." Vin couldn't look Elend in the eye now as with each passing day she was falling more and more in love with Galen.
"I see." He said seeming to sense this, "We'll we'll keep trying to find someone who can defend you Vin."
"That has already been taken care of." A voice said. Vin and Elend looked to find a spiky haired man in a blue suit walking into the detention center.
"Who are you?" Vin asked.
"Phoenix Wright, Ace Attorney, I've been hired by a friend of yours in the videogame section to defend you. A man named Dante is paying my retainer." He said.
Well if Dante trusts you then I do too, but who is that with you?" Vin said, referring to a mousy girl in strange dress who was following Phoenix. Vin was also relieved that Dante had remembered things as well, it was just more proof she wasn't crazy.
"Oh hi, I'm Nick's assistant, Maya Fey."
"Sorry it took us so long to get here, we were investigating the crime scene and trying to build a case. Link has so many injuries it's hard to tell what the cause of death was, but we'll do our best. The odds are that it was the decapitation that did it. With the Master Sword no less"
"But I never touched his word an Allomancy doesn't work on it."
"Well if we can prove it, that will go a long way for our case, but there are the other wounds to consider. You'd better get some rest Vin, you've got a big day tomorrow.
Phoenix was sweating bullets as he waited in the courtroom lobby. The trial was about to start and he didn't even know who the prosecutor was going to be. He believed Vin was innocent, if possibly a bit crazy given the story she'd told him about the universe being wrong. Of course that was neither here nor there at the moment, and he'd dealt with much more colorful characters in the past. Compared to his usual cases this one seemed almost tame.
"Mr. Wright, when this is over, there's something I need you to do for me. I need to get into the ton district. Can you arrange something like that?" Vin asked.
"Yeah, I can do that." Phoenix said.
"If we manage to prove you innocent that is."
"Cheer up Nick, you're the best attorney around you can do this. Maya seemed to sense his worry and lightly slapped him on the back.
"Thanks Maya."
"Mr. Wright," a very posh sounding British voice said, "I hear you are going to be my opponent in court today. This shall be most interesting indeed." The group turned to find an instantly recognizable duo of characters approaching them.
"Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson, you're the prosecution for Vin's trial?" Phoenix asked.
"Yes, they fantasy section is short on those with the skills need to do the job and given this case's high profile they called 221B Baker Street to fill the role." Holmes said.
"We're up against them?" Maya gulped.
"Come now child, we are not like the prosecutors you know," Watson said, "We are are after the truth rather than a guilty verdict."
"Well put Watson, tell me Mr. Wright, have you ever been part of a trial in this section before?"
"now but Maya and I were a part of something similar with Professor Layton in a place called Labarynthia."
"I see, we'll good luck Mr. Wright, your deductive skills are well known, I have no doubt between the two of us the truth will come out." Sherlock extended a hand toward Phoenix.
"Thank you Mr. Holmes, it's an honor to meet you both."
"Likewise, but don't think I'll take it easy on your arguments." Sherlock said.
"I wouldn't have it any other way," Phoenix replied, "Now it's time to go in there are sort through all the magic and evidence until we find the truth!"
This one's pretty simple: Vote Phoenix if you think he can prove Vin innocent. Vote Sherlock if he can't.
