Top 5 Strangest Intercompany Crossover Comic Book Stories
5. Honey West, Captain Action, That Man Flint: Danger A-Go-Go
A very obscure crossover tale featuring three fittingly obscure and old fashioned heroes. The one-shot online comic book featured Honey West, the classic mystery novel protagonist, Captain Action, the action figure who could turn into other superheroes, and Derek Flint, the hero of the spy genre parody film 'Our Man Flint'. The three mismatched heroes combat a multitude of threats in the comic.
4. The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen
Originally this series was supposed to be centred on an alternate universe Victorian-era version of the Justice League of America, but the writer Alan Moore changed the theme so it would be centred around a team of various British literary good guys and bad guys who fight Martians. Moore created an expansive universe in which everyone is a public domain character from classic literature, or at the very least related to another famous fictional character. Seriously, almost everything that happens in these comics references a piece of popular fiction. The team has gone through numerous iterations, with each version having a slightly different roster of characters. There are even French and German answers to the League that exist within the LoEG world.
3. IDW's Infestation series
Infestation and Infestation 2 are not crossovers in the traditional sense, and are considered to be 'cross-throughs'. Basically, both stories centre around a multiversal threat (The first Infestation comic dealt with machine-infecting zombies controlled by a being called The Overmind, while the second centred around Lovecraftian monsters) that crosses into different fictional universes and raise all kinds of hell. The first Infestation had the likes of Spock, Optimus Prime and Peter Venkman fighting zombies in their respective universes, while the second featured the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, the CVO, and Optimus Prime (A different version this time) battling Lovecraftian monsters. The second Infestation even had a tie-in comic featuring Archie from Groom Lake and Bat Boy from Weekly World News meeting up and discussing crossover comics in a bar!
2. A tie between Archie and Superman's respective crossover exploits
Archie is dabbling back into strange and unlikely crossovers again recently, what with a story centring around him and the Riverdale gang trying to survive against the Predator from the eponymous film franchise. There is another one coming out that centres around him combating the Sharknado. Not even kidding, this is a thing. Of course, everyone remembers the classic weird crossovers like 'Archie meets the Punisher', so perhaps Archie Comics are revisiting their roots with this new batch of weird crossover comics.
Superman has also had his fair share of weird inter company crossovers. Superman has fought Xenomorphs, Predators, Terminators, He-Man, Spider-Man, and many more. He's also met up with the Looney Tunes Gang and the Quik Bunny. Yeah, 'cause why the hell not?
1. The War of the Independents
A truly grand-in-scale crossover featuring a staggering number of independent companies loaning out their mega-obscure superhero and funny comic book characters for an epic crossover adventure. It's a true miracle that this comic even came into existence. It features The Tick, Cerebus the Aardvark, Gumby, Cassie Hack, The Pro, Scud, Flaming Carrot, Megaton Man, E-Man, Captain Action (yeah, him again) and many, many, many more. It's freaking insane. To see such an eclectic mix of characters going on an adventure together is something to behold.
