Mortal Kombat X is soon going to be released for the new generation consoles and the hype is unreal! Discuss and share your thoughts about the upcoming game and the franchise as a whole here!
News Not one, but two third party guest characters owned by rival companies were confirmed very recently. Those characters are Jason Voorhees from the Friday the 13th slasher horror franchise, and the Predator from the first Predator movie. Both characters are going to be a part of the downloadable 'Kombat Pack' alongside two characters from the original Mortal Kombat continuity, Tremor and Tanya, two obscure characters who are fan favourites among the dedicated Mortal Kombat fan base.
Tremor made his debut appearance as an enemy of Jax in the... Less than well received spin off game Mortal Kombat: Special Forces, which featured Jax going up against Kano and the Black Dragon clan. Tremor was a brown ninja character whose appearance was not unlike the ninja palette swaps from the fighting games who can petrify opponents and can has powers over the element of earth. The trailer for the Kombat Pack emphasised his tall and imposing stature. Many people consider this character to be the one saving grace of Special Forces, so it's obviously very cool to see this underdog stand alongside two horror movie icons.
Tanya is a woman from Edenia who turned evil and became a fierce rival of the green female ninja, Jade. She made her first appearance in Mortal Kombat 4, and was the only Mortal Kombat 4 character to make an appearance later in the original series in Mortal Kombat: Deception. Since Jade is supposedly dead in the new reboot timeline, it will surely be interesting to see how she interacts with Kitana, who now wields Jade's staff as part of her 'Mournful' variation during the pre-battle banter. Interestingly, she made a cameo in Mortal Kombat 9 in the background of the Shao Kahn Colisseum stage, and is tied to posts in place of Kitana if you fight Shao Kahn as Kitana. Perhaps there will be an explanation as to why she was there in the first place?...
Along with the aformentioned fighters, several downloadable character skins and costumes were also revealed, which unintentionally revealed the return of veteran kombatants Liu Kang and Jax Briggs. Both of these characters were killed in the last game's story, so there should be an explanation for their mysterious comebacks in X. Most of the Kombat Pack's new skins are going to be based on klassic costumes from the characters' earlier appearances, just like in the last game. Interestingly, one new costume for Jax is likely going to be based on the character Dillon from the first Predator movie, or might even be an alternate character with the exact same moves in the same way that Kuai Liang could be replaced with Bi-Han on the character select screen in the first game. TJ Combo from Killer Instinct was also given a costume based on Dillon in the latest game of that series too.
What other crossover characters could be revealed next?

I quite like how details about the story of MKX are being revealed slowly through trailers and the prequel comics, but I hope that they don't reveal too much. I also hope that no leakers or hackers post the game's story weeks before the game is actually released.
Some of the brand new character designs are pretty badass. I like how in the story there will be a little squad of fighters composed of the relatives and children of the old kombatants. There's Cassie Cage, who's the daughter of Johnny Cage and Sonya Blade, there's Takeda who's the son of Kenshi, there's Jacqui Briggs who's the daughter of Jax, and Kung Jin, who's the... Cousin of Kung Lao? One of these things is not like the other things....
The fact that quite a lot of characters mysteriously coming back from the dead is kinda cheap. It's supposedly due to a war in the Netherrealm that allowed some of the dead fighters whose souls were pinched by Quan Chi to come back. How come none of them got changed by Quan Chi, yet characters like Scorpion and Bi-Han did, power wise? You'd think Quan Chi would say to himself 'Gee, maybe I should give all of these other guys awesome darkness and hellfire powers as well!" But then again, I guess Quan Chi and Shinnok can't risk enhanced superpowered fighters escaping the Netherrealm and then revolting.

Not a big fan of horror movies, so I can take or leave Jason. The Predator is cool, though. I'm sure somewhere out there Rakai's rejoicing. Sad to see he didn't make the trip over here, by the way..

Oh yeah I remember that guy. Whats funny is that I was watching videos of this fan made fighting game called Terrordrome which had an entire roster of slasher horror characters, including not one but two Jasons. It looked really cool and looked like it had similar gameplay to Mortal Kombat, even though it bizarrely doesn't have any fatalities. Now Jason actually is in Mortal Kombat.

No its not cheap with characters coming back from the dead. Remember the universe was rebooted so things are different now. It makes sense some of these characters would have different fates now. Also the Mortal Kombat X Prequel comic is awesome. It really shows you how badass the MK characters are and why people like me love this franchise.
I am a fan of horror films so I love having these guys in here. Honestly know the story of MK it makes sense they would be in MK. Also keep in mind Warner Brother owns or is associated with the film rights of a lot of these characters. They might as well put them in the game.
I agree I want a fucking Terminator in this game and other DC or live action characters who haven't appeared in MK yet. If they did that this would be the best MK game DLC wise and probably story wise as well up to date.

If they did that this would be the best MK game DLC wise and probably story wise as well up to date. A lot of badass stuff happens in that comic I've heard. I quite like how Kotal Kahn is actually not such a bad guy as he defended his Aztek people from harm and didn't know that they would die from blood poisoning if they drank the Spanish conquistadors' blood. That's a neat little historical reference actually. A lot of Aztek tribes went extinct due to the Spanish bringing plague and disease with them. It's a nice change of pace because ugly looking characters in MK tend to be evil, but Kotal Kahn isn't. Freddy Krueger should probably come back. Since the Freddy in MK 9 is the reboot version he wouldn't recognise Jason if they meet again. But seriously dude there have actually been tonnes of credible rumours for awesome guests to join the game, like Rorscach (because his silhouette was on a beta roster screen) and Spawn (Todd MacFarlane agreed to allow WB to use the character if they want). If they do console exclusives (which I hope they don't) they should at least get both a Microsoft and Sony character to be in their respective versions. If they for example can get Kratos back but can't get the rights for a Microsoft character then they should just use one of their own characters.

They are doing DLCS for extra stuff not exclusives. Better for us and more money for them.

They are doing DLCS for extra stuff not exclusives. Better for us and more money for them. That's good. News UpdateLiu Kang was revealed today in a trailer showing off all of the Shaolin fighters in the game, which also included Kung Lao and Kung Jin, the newcomer bowman who, like Kung Lao, is a descendent of the Great Kung Lao who fought and got killed by Goro thousands of years before the series began. Liu Kang is yet again back from the dead. The trailer gave us some hints about their involvement in the story. Raiden, after leading several Earthrealm warriors including Kung Lao and Liu Kang to their deaths, feels remorse for his actions. Liu Kang also mocks Raiden for him seeing visions. In MK9, the whole story is based around Raiden seeing visions of Armageddon in his amulet after an alternate future self from a parallel world sent a cryptic message through it. Could this mean that Raiden is still seeing visions of the future even in this game? More prophecies of Armageddon, or something completely different? Liu Kang, like some of the other characters brought back from the Netherrealm, has glowing eyes and a ghostly look about him. But unlike the other characters, it looks like this form is Liu Kang's 'main' costume in the game and not an alternate. Also, Liu Kang and Kung Lao could be seen beating up tarkartans in one part of the trailer. Could this be a sign of Baraka being confirmed in the future? The character did not die in the last game's story after all.

News Update
More or less the whole of the first chapter of Mortal Kombat X, Johnny Cage's, was shown recently. It showed Johnny Cage and the Earthrealm forces, including Sonya, Kenshi, Raiden, and a character returning from Mortal Kombat Mythologies, Fujin, the God of winds. Quan Chi resurrects many dead characters from the previous game to help his army of demons fight Raiden and Fujin, including Smoke, Nightwolf, Stryker, Sindel, and Kabal. Sub-Zero and Jax are the only ones who are actually fought in the story mode, though time will tell if any of the others will be fought. At the end of Johnny's chapter, Shinnok is defeated by Cage and then trapped in the mysterious amulet seen commonly throughout the 3D era games. Presumably, that means Shinnok is not going to be the main villain of the game, though it's possible that he could come back and play a larger role.
Speaking of Jax, the Briggs Family trailer was shown recently too, and it shows Jax and his daughter Jacqui in gameplay and some scenes of them in the story. It's presented in a similar way to the Cage Family trailer.

Anyone find it kind of odd that none of the supposed 'klassic' and 'tournament' skins look nothing like the characters' actual klassic and tournament incarnations (With the exception of Johnny Cage's and Scorpion's)? Mileena, Ermac and Reptile in their tournament costumes look absolutely nothing like how they look in MK9's story, even though the costumes are obviously supposed to convey their looks in that game. They couldn't even get the klassic costumes right. At least they all looked accurate in MK9 (Even if the ones like MK3 Sub-Zero look plastic faced).
Some of the other new costumes look badass though. Johnny Cage finally got a Ninja Mime costume, Jax got a farmer costume, and Scorpion got several very stylised and cool looking costumes, including his Injustice universe counterpart's costume.

I never really had a problem with Tanya's new look in MKX when the first revealed it, but after seeing the new makeover she's getting for the Kombat Pack, I realised how ugly and inaccurate her old MKX design was. I'd laugh if Netherrealm came up with an actual canon explanation for her getting a completely new design.
