As many of you may know, the Database is where various profiles of your favorite characters are made and stored for reference.

I created this thread because we're trying to see how we're going to proceed with the Database, and we could also use some extra input on the matter. To start, the first and most obvious question is:
Do you think MagneticFox needs a Database?
Yes, it may seem a little extreme at this point to ask this, but for the Database to have a purpose, first and foremost, the community has to want it to exist. I've put up a poll to this effect for you guys to vote on, and you may also comment on whatever's on your mind on the subject.
Now, here are some pros and cons for having a Database. If there are any pros or cons that come to mind, please feel free to post them.
Pros:
- Each profile contains three reference links and one copyright and/or official link (the latter of which can sometimes be a fourth reference) for a character.
- Each profile also has a win/loss match record for a character. Just a small way of adding to the fun and debate of match-making.
- No longer are you limited to just posting a 200 X 200 main image. Instead forcing a more rectangular image into a square shape, you can post it as is. It may be good to not post a "ginormous" image as the main one, though. The size of the image can also be adjusted if you know a little bit about web script (we can show how this is done later).
- The profiles can also be used as a personal gallery for the character by putting images in posts in each profile thread.
- Unlike CBUB, any user can create a character profile from scratch. This may be easier to do once we have some sort of rules/guidelines in place for how a profile is done.
Cons:
- With no profile creator in place, instead of simply sending in the links and a picture for review, a profile has to be created from scratch. This means adding a short excerpt for the character, (whether that means copy/pasting from one or several reference links or writing up your own), adding an image of the character yourself, and, of course, finding and posting the reference links in the profile.
- Also, because there is no profile creator, there's no real place to save a profile's image and one has to post a link in IMG tags to place it in the profile. The problem with this is the image will go blank if the site using the image decides to delete or block it from use elsewhere, and may therefore have to be replaced.
- With no automatc match creator, a member of the staff has to manually add the matches' results to the character profiles and the "Final Match Results" thread. This may cause delays in those results being displayed anywhere else but in the matches themselves if no one in the staff is around or gets around to doing so.
- As with CBUB, it may be tough at times to find four good links about your character. We can discuss this later.
So, what do you guys think? Please vote and comment.
