Jason’s Hand was already on his pistol. He stealthily unholstered it from his waist, adjusting his grip on the stock. As Bane began counting, Tim looked at Jason. With a slight nod he gave Tim the queue. Bane was at eight when Jason drew his pistol and began firing. At the same time Tim dove behind a small forklift as Helena slid behind the supplies. She began cramming as much as she could into her backpack. Jason and Tim moved to draw fire away from her as she worked. Bullets ripped through crates as Jason and Tim somersaulted and flipped from cover to cover. Landing behind a steel cargo container Jason fired a few rounds. Tim loosed two batarangs in mid air, one knocking a gunman unconscious. As the man collapsed he fell over the edge of the ship and into the water below. Bane raised his hand in the air and the gunmen ceased fire. Yelling to his men Bane said, “Save your ammo! Reinforcements have arrived!” Bane pointed towards the fence and only barrier keeping out the undead. The metal creaked and groaned and finally gave way. The undead began streaming in, trampling the ones that had fallen with the fence. The sprinted down the dock towards the trio still on land. Seeing the mass of undead closing in, she rejoined Jason and Tim. As the first few zombies reached the group, Jason leveled his pistol and fired three shots. As they dropped, more undead filed in to take their place. The group began to run and reached towards the sky with their grapnel gun. They fired the grapnel lines and began being pulled towards a crane that was used for loading cargo containers that was perched at the edge of the dock. “No running from this my friends.” Bane said, firing a RPG at the supports of the crane. After a moment the entire crane began to collapse back to the dock.
Twisted metal and fire engulfed the immediate area. Jason stood to his feet, his head spinning, and looked around for Helena and Tim. Helena was climbing to her feet but Tim was out and wreckage covered his lower body. Jason tried shaking the cob webs from his head but only made it hurt worse. Jason began lifting the beam as Helena began pulling Tim out from underneath. The smoke was making it hard to see. Tim was still not moving. Throwing him over his shoulder they began to run. They knew what was on the other side of the rubble so they just wanted to put some space between them and the undead behind them.
Once the dust had settled the undead’s attention turned towards the men on the ship. The wreckage had created a makeshift land bridge with the debris. The zombies began to scramble across it with increased vigor. They seemed to be angry at being denied the meal that had been before them on the dock. Bane ordered his men to open fire. Bullets tore through the rotting corpses. Here and there a zombie would fall but it seemed as though panic had struck some of the men and they forgot they were not shooting at normal people. These newest recruits were too dumb to listen when they were initially trained. The ship was slowly being overrun. They utilized the life boats onboard to make their escape. They dumped what supplies they could that had been gained from the ship onto the lifeboats. As Bane got ready to make his exit, a zombie came out of nowhere. It latched on to his gloved hand. With disdain, he simply grabbed it by the neck and hurled it into the waters below. Examining his hand, he saw the monster had not bitten through the glove. With one last glance behind him at the horde headed towards him, Bane jumped into the life boat and he and his men rowed away.
With all the noise from the fight Jason and Helena knew more undead would be headed their way. “We have to get off the streets. No doubt a third of the city heard that. We need a good place to hold up for a bit.” Helena whispered. Jason agreed, “Yeah, it’s going to take a day or so before we can maybe get Tim on his feet. He is still out cold and probably has a broken leg. We need to be somewhere with a good vantage point but concealed.” Pausing a moment to think, “Barbara’s place would be great. She probably has some medical supplies and food there. It’s only a few blocks from here.” So dodging from shadow to shadow, as the sun went down, they creeped the remaining distance to their destination. Helena slowly opened the front doors of the building with her crossbow at the ready. The place looked and smelled alright. Slipping inside quietly they breathed a sigh of relief. Helena began unspooling the high tensile wire of her grapnel and used it to secure the front swinging doors. Carrying Tim on his shoulder still, Jason launched his grapnel up the center of the staircase. The line pulled tight and he began to ascend with Tim attached below. After reaching the top, he sent the grapnel back down for Helena. Once they were altogether, Helena began to pick the lock on the massive double doors. Other than the windows being shattered and papers scattered about, the place looked mostly undisturbed. Laying Tim on the couch, Jason then began stacking furniture in front of the doors. Helena sat down next to Tim and reset the bone in Tim’s leg. Tim squirmed and groaned but didn’t regain consciousness. Jason looked over at Helena, “We have twelve hours before the satellite is back in place and we can get comms with the cave. We may as well rest while we can.” Safe and secure they decided to get a little shut eye while the opportunity presented itself.
8 hrs later…
Shots echoed through the streets. The sound seemed to be coming from the South of their location. Jason walked to the edge of where the windows used to be. Helena looked at Jason and said, “You should go check and see what it is. Someone may need our help.” Jason thought for a moment and said, “I’ll go but if I’m not back when the comms come back on don’t wait on me. Tim needs medical attention.” With that, Jason dove out the window and shot his grapnel across the skyline. As he landed on a roof he rolled to cushion the fall. Coming to his feet he continued running across the rooftops towards the commotion. As he can to the ledge of a roof adjacent the source of the gunfire he saw why. The South Precinct of the GCPD was surrounded. Dozens on undead where around the front entrance trying to bust in. From windows he could see sporadic gunfire erupt every once in awhile. Using his grapnel he swung across the street and into a broken out window on the top floor of the Precinct. He maneuvered through the dark hallways and down the staircase to where the shooting was coming from. Lighting a cigarette in the foyer was Commissioner Gordon himself. To his left and right respectively was Bullock and Montoya. Ten other officers were busy doing this and that around the windows and doors. Some civilians were huddled against the back wall of the room and looked scarred out of their wits. The officers were all in full riot gear Gordon, Bullock, and Montoya included and looked ragged and worn down. Officers ran from place to place to fortify the building but at this rate more zombies would be here soon and overrun the barricades. Announcing himself, Jason dropped from the upper staircase. “Hey Commish. You look busy. How did you come to be in this fine predicament?” Gordon explained a brief summary of what had led them to this point. Knowing they had to move before the undead population rose in there general vicinity, Jason explained where he was held up temporarily and that in 4 hours he could possibly contact a ride to move them all to a secure location. After hearing the first good news in awhile, Commissioner Gordon made an executive decision to go with Jason and told any who opposed they could stay here.
Jason is leading this surviving group back to the Clock Tower where Helena and Tim are. They must make it the ten blocks back to the tower and survive for 4 hours before transportation can arrive.
