-Above Gotham-
(Missiles soared through the sky. In pursuit, the Batplane rocketed over the skies of Gotham. Bruce’s hands scrolled across the controls, trying to get a lock on the missile just ahead of him. Oracle interjected through the comms system, “This isn’t an isolated incident Batman, there are air born missiles all across the globe.” Quickly closing the distance, Bruce locked on to the missile high above Gotham. About ready to fire it suddenly detonated. A blinding flash lit up the sky and then everything went black.)
-Batcave-
Waking in a panic, Bruce set up. He pulled on the wires and IV’s attached to him. Dick Grayson put a hand on his shoulder to calm him. With uncertainty Bruce said, “How long have I been out?” Dick looked at Alfred then back at Bruce, “Two weeks.” “Give me a break down of the situation.” Bruce said with a strange calm. Letting out a sigh and with hesitation Dick said, “It’s bad. I can tell you but it will be much easier to show you.” Dick helped Bruce out of bed and over to the computer monitors. Reaching towards the keyboard he started a news feed that had been recorded.
“Since that, everything has gone dark. A series of secondary emp detonations went off a few days ago. The stuff in the cave works but nothing outside of here is useable.” With a worried look Bruce asked, “What of the League? Why didn’t they prevent the second attack? What’s there situation?” With a tremble in his voice Dick broke the news. “They are gone!” With an astonished look on his face Bruce stared straight ahead. Dick continued, “In the first attack, the missiles that exploded must have been carrying some sort of biological weapon. It all happened so fast. Within days every super powered or meta human on the planet was dead. We buried Clark, Diana, and Lois by your parents graves. We think as an unwanted and unexpected side effect, the dead came back to life. With the world turned upside down, no one was able to stop the second attack.” Holding his head in his hands Bruce asked, “How is the city?” “There are uncalculated numbers of undead. On the bright side there are survivors, we have heard gun shots echo through the city on the few excursions we have made. Without communication lines we can’t figure out exactly who these survivors are. I wasn’t able to ask but everyone I could find, I brought back here. We do have one working satellite but it is only overhead for 5 hrs a day.” Bruce asked a final question, “What about him?” Dick said, “Joker? No sign has been seen of him. You think he survived all this?” Bruce said with certainty, “I have no doubt he is still out there somewhere.” Bruce stood and slowly walked away. Dick and Alfred left Bruce to his thoughts.
After hours of going over data that Dick had gathered, Bruce emerged from his isolation. He came to them with his cowl down and a sadness in his eyes. As everyone gathered, Bruce laid out his plan, “Family and friends, first off I’m sorry I have not been there for you. Second, I’m going to be blunt. We may be all that is left of the league and its allies. I commend you all on the horror you have had to endure. This won’t be easy. This cave is below Wayne Manor. We are going to turn it into a refugee center. The cave will remain our base of operations. The manor and immediately surrounding lawn will be living quarters. The rest of the estate will be used for farming. We will need around the clock watches of the outer wall. Now we are going to need more supplies to get started.” Taking a moment, Bruce paused. With some final words he said, “Once we get this place settled, we will find the person responsible for all of this.”
Bruce sat in front of his computer monitor, his bandages and injuries causing him uncomfort. While his satellite was over Gotham, he needed to find the best location for a supply run. Finally choosing a location near the docks, he put together a team. He spent hours analyzing options before settling. Approaching his group of survivors.
“We have a fairly easy area that we should be able to gather some food and maybe medical supplies from. On the western side of the city is some freighters and warehouses that normally house canned goods. The freighters should have a decent amount of medical supplies in the sick bays. A team of individuals will search the warehouses and then the freighters. If its clear, obtain the supplies and hopefully you can commandeer an additional form of transportation for later runs.”
After going over the plans; Jason, Helena, and Tim began to prepare. They unloaded the Bat boat of any unneeded tools and equipment. They needed as much space for storage as they could afford to make the trip worth the risk. Once they were ready, they fired up the engine and took off. The three of them had never seen the city in such bad shape. Fires burned uncontained, skyscrapers lay void and smoke filled the air. They neared the docks and took time to scout the area. They only saw a few undead inside the warehouse compound. Making landfall the three of the undead immediately began sprinting towards them. They were dispatched rather quickly. Helena fired two bolts. The first arrow struck the lead zombie in the left eye socket. The things momentum caused it to skid forwards as it hit the pavement. The second arrow smashed a zombie right above the bridge of the nose. It flipped backwards and landed with a smack. The third was downed with a batarang to the temple by Tim. Extracting there weapons from the now permanently dead, they continued on.
After looting the warehouses of some much needed canned foods they pulled tons of cans out on a hand truck. They began making there way towards the freighters. They stooped the hand trucks at an entrance ramp to the massive ship. As they began walking up the ramp a whistle blew . Suddenly a couple dozen heavily armed men appeared aboard a cargo trailer and spoke, “I think we have a problem. See those supplies belong to me. Me and my men are hungry and we didn’t come here to leave empty handed.” The person talking finally revealed himself. Bane stepped up next to his men with an RPG on his shoulder. He quickly turned and fired a rocket that impacted the Bat boat. It burst into flames and a loud boom echoed across the water. As the sound faded Bane declared, “You have 10 seconds to decide. Give us the supplies or die.” It seems we have drawn an audience as well. Times ticking.”
