Barragan Luisenbarn
Baraggan Louisenbairn is the Segunda Espada.
His name references Mexican architect Luis Barragán, on whose minimalistic architectural style design principles the structure of Hueco Mundo was based.
In his human form, Baraggan is an ancient yet sturdy man.
The remnants of his mask take the form of a five-pointed crown, and his hollow hole is located in the center of his chest.
He bears large visible scars on the left side of his chin and across his right eye, and wears a rope-like sash with a sun-crested buckler attached to it in addition to an obi sash.
Before becoming an Espada, Barragan was a warlord in Hueco Mundo, ruling from a ruined castle as the self-titled "God of Hueco Mundo".
Aizen, in preparation to defect from the Soul Society, offered Baraggan greater power if he would ally with him.
Though he refused the offer, Baraggan was forced to submit after Aizen easily killed many of his followers.
He bore a grudge against the Soul Reaper throughout his entire career as an Espada.
As an Espada, Baraggan's representation of death is senescence, unavoidable death brought on by age.
He has the unique ability to control entropy, weakening and slowing the bodies of enemies who come near to him as if they had become elderly.
His zanpakuto- is Arrogante Arogante, Spanish for "Arrogant," kanji translates as "Great Skull Emperor", a giant battle-axe which can transform into a throne of skulls.
When released, Baraggan returns to his original Hollow form, a crowned lich, and manifests his original hollow form's weapon, a larger axe named Gran Caída Guran Kaida, Spanish for "Great Fall," kanji translates as "Downfallen Axe".
In this form, Baraggan's aging powers are intensified to the point that everything around him is continuously rotting away.
Also, he can exhale Respira , a mist that erodes whatever it touches.
This ranges from decaying people into dust to deteriorating magical barriers and weapons.
However, Respira is double edged as Barggan is susceptible as well; he developed a means protect his body from his own attack's effect.
In the end, it is this rotting effect that is his downfall when a rotting item is transported inside his protective barrier and rots himself away.
Though introduced at the same point in the Hueco Mundo arc as the majority of the espada, Baraggan does not take an active role in the plot until the Fake Karakura Arc, in which he is a major villain.
In the war, Baraggan takes command of the arrancar while Aizen is trapped by Yamamato's power.
He assumes command despite being ranked second in the Espada, stating that he assumes there are no objections from the others.
He then gives orders to the other Arrancars from his skull-adorned throne.
But after his six fracciónes were killed off, with minimal Soul Reaper casualties, Baraggan takes the field against captain Soi Fon and her lieutenant personally.
Eventually assuming his Resurrección form, Barragan continuously maintains the upper hand through the battle as he nullifies any attack and forces Soi Fon to amputate her right arm when it is infected his respira.
But when the Visard Hachigen joins the fight, Baraggan is entrapped in multiple kido- barriers so Soi Fon can land a direct hit with her bankai.
This attack is somewhat successful, and cracks Barragan's skull, but does not destroy him.
Baraggan is ultimately defeated only when Hachigen realizes Baraggan's barrier against his respira and uses it against him by transferring his Respira-infected right forearm into the Espada's midsection.
Once defeated, Barragan makes an attempt on Aizen's life; but Baraggan dissolves into nothingness as the attack fails.
Baraggan is voiced by Sho-zo- Iizuka in the Japanese anime.
In the English version, he is voiced first by Steve Kramer in the Hueco Mundo arc, and then Michael McConnohie in the Fake Karakura Town arc.
